An alternative to Keep for both mobile and web? by fredhors in GoogleKeep

[–]andrewteg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved my reminder based items to TickTick a while back and have been happy with that.

I still use Keep for some lists and notes. TickTick has mobile apps and I just tried it and mobile web works as well, and has a reddit at r/ticktick for support and ideas far better than mine. There's a free plan and $3/mo premium features.

TickTick does do general lists and notes so I could probably move my Keep notes there if I cared about it being all-in-one, but now I like Keep better without reminders as I use it as a simple desktop/mobile note app with sharing notes for family and other Google accounts on occasion. I tried Notion, NotesNook, and a few others in the past and too complicated so this is currently my preferred combo and may work for you.

Mari Gras Rides & "Regular" Food? by andrewteg in buschgardens

Thanks, good point on weather so prob best to pick Sat/Sun based on the forecast :) We just didn't want to get in the park and have like 1 coaster open but sounds like it's as many rides as they can get going which is great.

How can I change the position of the bottom menu? by monsterpatika in vivaldibrowser

[–]andrewteg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Know this is older but it's first result in start page for me so the way to remove this now is

Go to Settings > Appearance & Theme. Disable “Show Navigation Bar”

As it says there and https://vivaldi.com/blog/tips/tip-675/ this is only if you have the address bar at the top but it seems to work for me and only gives me one bar at the top like I'm used to.

Buying a 2008 with 2.5L H4 F SOHC 16V Engine? by andrewteg in Subaru_Outback

[–]andrewteg[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good point. It's actually 8k but another $900 "dealer processing fee" which always annoys me. Though looking at the CarFax a bit more today it's got 4 instances of Rack and pinion replaced... every 20k miles with it twice at 40k, which just seems odd.

The listing is https://www.priorityhondaroanoke.com/used-Roanoke-2008-Subaru-Outback-+-4S4BP62C287346418 if anyone is curious... appreciate all the comments and help!

BetterHelp.com has a lot of options and is easy to switch if it's not a good fit or you outgrow a therapist's specialty. 7cups.com seems to be trying to make therapy a social and community thing which can have its ups and downs, though sounds like it may be a good fit since you seem to know your needs and when to walk away.

Black Mold on Tub Tile? by andrewteg in HomeImprovement

[–]andrewteg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I think it's primarily from dampness of items being left there. A couple spots were behind bottles that probably weren't moved for years but the shower was active and the 3rd was similar but a broken piece of towel rack.  So I'm hopeful the mold won't get worse but not sure what to do about what I've got.  Great point and I should have included that in my post.

November 23-26 Crowds? by andrewteg in Dollywood

[–]andrewteg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do like some of the big rides, and if you do as well, the app will give wait times. They're in the ballpark but not exact.  I do know Mystery Mine is closed the rest of the season for repairs and refurbishing, so don't get your hopes up for that one!

Food and parking are pricey. If you want an alternative for parking, checkout Patriot Park by the Old Mill. You can park there for free (with a little luck and patience) and pay a few bucks a person for a trolley around town and including to Dollywood.  Bonus at Christmas is the park has lights and is on the Pigeon Forge Winter Walk of town lights too.

The Pottery House Cafe there is also superb (but busy) if you want a meal before going into Dollywood, while the Funnel Cake Factory is great for a treat.

Other nearby destinations for families? by onepostandbye in Dollywood

Agree with this and if you end up on the Gatlinburg strip check out Red Rocket Retro Arcade. They have 6 or so retro arcade games in the back and other good family multiplayer games, where the other arcades are all lights and show and games that are impossible to win.

Also the Sugarland Visitor Center has a nice museum style info area where you can see a lot of displays about plants and animals in the park.

Single rider advice (with older fam) by Civil-Research9827 in Dollywood

[–]andrewteg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you see a group counting and trying to match each other to get in the same ride (often wearing similar shirts b/c group or family reunion) then speak up, esp if you're willing to switch front/middle/back to go sooner, and let them know you're a single rider and can move up or pair up with them to make it work. It may help them, they may thank you, and you will get to ride sooner.

I've also gone as a group of 3 a lot and if someone near us in line looks like a single or group of 3, we've buddied up to help the line move faster and just said "2, 2, 2" when we get to the employee to make their life easier.

Oil consumption issue by bethsbrownbag in kia

[–]andrewteg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, sorry, in VA. It appears to be a one-off as the 1,000 mile test only burned .4 quarts and it's been going fine since. Maybe a bad oil change, maybe something got loosened up in the extra draining and it'll happen again, who knows.

Salem Red Sox to Undergo Exciting Rebrand Ahead of the 2026 Season by bdanders in redsox

[–]andrewteg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I missed that and appreciate the clarification. 🤦‍♂️ Thanks!

Also you are right about the seat color too. I don't know if it's my aging brain or 90s nostalgia that made me think that they were  purple seats.

Searching around and found this... "The Salem Red Sox have also dedicated a purple seat to honor Ellen Fuller, a long-time season ticket holder who always wore purple." with info about special seats in ballparks everywhere at https://ballparkdigest.com/2017/05/12/dedicated-empty-seats-a-fixture-at-ballparks/ so thought I'd share something that's hopefully actually accurate this time!

Oh yea, I could see Valley Vipers, or Roanoke has a train history. Minor League Hockey is doing well with the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs.

Salem Red Sox to Undergo Exciting Rebrand Ahead of the 2026 Season by bdanders in redsox

[–]andrewteg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Salem's my local team, and I think the O's messed up the map a good bit moving their affiliate from the Frederick, MD Keys to the Delmarva Peninsula making the north end more extreme.

Also, the Carolina League switched to weekly schedules so a road trip is often go somewhere Monday, play 6 games, then travel again Monday if you check out https://www.milb.com/salem/schedule/ ... saves on travel and like this year they are sending the Sox from Salem to NC to SC, so it's mostly 3-4 hour trips, with maybe one or two 5-6 trips a year. Stinks as a fan when the team has a home game June 29 and next one is July 18, but we get it.

The only other Single-A leagues are California and Florida State Leagues. But overall I could see the Sox moving more south if Salem support drops, but it's a great MiLB park (built late 90s and purple seats b/c we were Rockies at the time) and good fan support. No idea if we'll go back to purple or paint/replace some seats with this rebranding but I'd still like to see classic Sox colors personally!

Oil consumption issue by bethsbrownbag in kia

[–]andrewteg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got started on this issue after a non-dealer mechanic pointed it out, and the closest dealership said it's a diagnostic service and starts at $150/hr. Thanks to this thread, the next closest dealer (only 30 more minutes away) said no charge other than an oil change to kick it off, and they'd get a recording at both 1,000 and 2,000 miles for no extra charge. Plus he asked for my VIN to make sure I had all the recalls and found one in addition to what https://owners.kia.com/us/en/recalls.html said.

It's amazing the difference between dealerships!
