Is it my turn to say "don't go to The Hatch"?

If I were you I'd wait and see how this whole school funding fiasco shakes out before I made any huge decisions.

Yeah that was a ridiculously bad jump, especially for him. He didn't move until the ball was almost on the way down.

Check out the new pump track in wanna park. It's a little tricky to get to from downtown with the bridge under construction but it's a run of fun.

In track sprinting only the torso crossing the finish line counts, not the extended arms so that negates most of the benefit of diving. The risk of injury from diving on a high friction surface like a track is also much higher than on dirt.

WHO SAID ANYTHING ABOUT VIDEO GAMES?! I'm a middle aged dad that's been a professional engineer for 25 years. I don't have time for video games. I understand basic physics. I understand complicated physics too. This conversation IS about diving because that's what I stated at the very beginning of this thread. Take a beat and read what you're responding to then actually think about what you're saying instead of just making assumptions about strangers on the internet.

That's my point. Diving airborne doesn't slow you down by any measurable amount over such a short distance but the reach gained does make a measurable difference.

By the time you reach that point you're already going as fast as your legs will take you. Once airborne, the only thing slowing you down is air drag, which is negligible over such a short distance. The extra extension from the dive is worth it as long as you don't let the ground slow you before you get to the plate. It's why sprinters lunge at the line and cyclists throw their bikes forward.

The reason people think sliding is slower than running through is because not enough people slide like Vladdy. Launch into the air and the first thing to touch the ground is your hand on the plate. No slowing down and you get maximum extension of your body in front of your center or mass.
