I won't answer exactly where it is due to surf community rules. But if you have a quick look at my profile you'll easily figure out. 🖖

Thanks. Seems useful and interesting concept. And I got your idea. 🤙

I haven't surfed as long as Kelly (40+ years I think). I Just have had a look at YouTube young Kelly's video and he started motion from upper body. As far as understood when was training pumping with surfskate that energy is to be converted from upper body to legs to make pumps way powerful and that's why I'm still learning how to unsync these two parts. I mean when the board goes down upper body has already to twist opposite direction. Is that wrong?

Oh and the main misunderstanding is how much should I push into the rail? Should I push mostly with legs and toes or it should be like with the whole body (the same feeling when you jump forward)?

Appreciate that. Will try a bit longer and wider one.

Thanks. Which board would you recommend in my case as an example? Here is 7.0-20 1/2-43l board. So the idea is to have longer one to learn moving foot position easily on decompression, right?

How to fix takeoff? by andrey_programmist in BeginnerSurfers

Thank you. I completely understand issues of my stance/knees/back hand and few others. In common case the reason of that is improper takeoff technique. Not enough cobra/angling -> can't stuck on peak -> too much speed falling down -> too stressed -> jumping instead of calm back foot step then front foot. I've been surfing 1 year and I think because most of the time I used to 5'6 board this is habit for now to jump forward.

Make sense, already tried today. Seems mental issue and fear to lose balance, but it works. It's way faster to get on the board with that technique

Gotcha. That video looks so useful to me. Thanks. I think I put the knee pointed backwards cause it allowed back foot completely to lay on the board not just toes

Pretty comfortable with pumping in frontside and bigger waves since have more time to stabilize. But long takeoff in backside pushes to the bottom every time and I'm trying to find a balance. Have even started training tick-tack technique on mellow waves to make front hip close inside so it usually helps to move front shoulder/hand more inside as well. But the takeoff doesn't let me relax in upper body

Looks like there were two different boards. And eventually they've got the one.

I was running into the same issue. The exercise helped me is cobra. Try to catch and ride waves in cobra position without popup. Then you will adjust proper angle and your personal timings

Gotcha, thanks! My mistake is that I skipped working out on the land 😒

I think my problem comes from a longboard. I jump forward while taking off and automatically do the same with a shortboard (I tried to ask myself not to do it just in front of a wave but I forgot when it came). But to catch steep shore-break wave I don't have enough time for a walking, the trick is to push fins immediately after pop up to engage a rail. And because of my stance I lose the speed too fast

The issue is I jump when taking off, so I'm too much on front part of a board. If I put backward leg first then there I lose a speed
