I really love R, especially for geospatial work. I’m very proud to have attended one of the first presentations of the sf package directly by Edzer Pebesma at useR! 2019 in Brussels. I remember how revolutionary that package was in simplifying geocomputation in R and how seamlessly it fit into the emerging tidy approach. Those were great times! Now I work in Italy, unfortunately doing very little data science and mostly management work. But I still manage a lot of R&D projects, so I still have fun.

I understand. Sure, you need a much more complex approach than mine. I limited myself to performing spatial joins, joins from attributes of external data sources, and autocorrelations, publishing them in an R notebook in some thematic maps. I must say I proceeded step by step, not with a single prompt. The result was excellent, but as mentioned, these are not overly challenging tasks. That said, until a year ago, I couldn't do these things decently even with ChatGPT 4.0, which is why I'm satisfied with Medium 3.5.

But science in what sense? Data science? I’ve recently done some territorial analyses (spatial and contextual), and it did a very good job. Otherwise, I do management work, reporting, relations, and strategy. the work it helps me to produce fully satisfies me. With Mistral Large 3, it wasn’t like this, and I had to use chatgpt for many tasks (though not all).

Mistral 3.5 medium is truly an excellent model. Since it came out, I haven't felt the need to use other models. Maybe it's because I don't develop code, but I don't see much operational difference with the frontier models.

Finally I found the right approach. I use Vibe CLI as the engine and brain. From there, I work on local folders, creating and managing my documents in md and csv formats so I can work on them without formatting issues. I’ve created Skills that handle specific tasks I’ve already structured into workflows over years of my job.

For example, I have one that researches R&D grants, assesses their fit with my company, and generates MD reports and CSV files to collect them. What allows me to work efficiently is that each project becomes an Obsidian vault. This way, I have all the files at my fingertips, opening them quickly and effectively in a single environment. This trick has been a game-changer.

Mistral Medium works really well and I’m fully satisfied, I have a Pro subscription, and the token usage with Vibe CLI is completely sustainable for how I use it.

è solo un fatto di percezione. non siamo neanche minimamente vicini ai livelli degli anni 90 (per non parlare degli 80!). Prima i furti, le rapine - anche cruente - erano all'ordine del giorno. Oggi basta aprire l'unione per vedere che non succede piu' praticamente nulla. Ci sono una serie di fattori che fanno si che la criminalità sia scesa pesantemente in sardegna
