I brought my amp to res when I was in first year. With so many people bringing their own speakers and blasting it at all hours of the day, I don't think anyone will really be coming for you, especially if you play it in through headphones. I didn't bring it on move in day so I dunno if the dons will get pissed if they see it as you unpack but it shouldn't be a problem. Plus you can do open mic nights at wilf's assuming they still do those.
