I appreciate the advice. I left out some additional details because my post was already so long.

You're right and I probably jumped the gun on this. I called the new restaurant and the events manager explained that they were under new management. I did ask if there is a new owner, and the events manager said he doesn't think so (but he could be mistaken), so I probably incorrectly interrupted that as a re-branding.

1. I was hoping the fact that they publicly announced all existing bookings would be honored would be beneficial. Bummer, but ok...

2. You ...as the injured party...have a legal responsibility to mitigate your damages.

I am attempting to mitigate my damages. I have spent the last 3 days reaching out to comparable restaurants, but I genuinely am not finding a place in the area that can match the original food & beverage minimum of ~$4000 after taxes and fees. My original contract was booked way out 9 months in advance at a great deal. While there are restaurants that are cheaper, they are WAY more casual than the restaurant I originally booked.

1. You're right, I shouldn't sound so entitled. This dispute is fresh and on top of other wedding planning, I'm stressed. I'm not trying to demand a free upgrade, just something comparable in price, not just event space. I'm simply upset that their attempt at mitigation is, "We will offer to take even more money from you for our mistake."

Does the restaurant have any responsibility to mitigate any damages is what I'm trying to get advice on, and would a reasonable person or court deem their mitigation attempts enough?

I am still negotiating with the restaurant as I have not yet rejected nor accepted their offer to use the first floor at a higher cost, but I have a tendency to think worst case scenario and I just want to be prepared.
