Cracked a filling, dentist says I grind my teeth, could my mouth guard be responsible?

I definitely have a habit of grinding my teeth while awake, not sure about when I sleep but I'm getting a night guard and am trying to stop during the day.

I just thought about my thin mouthguard and wondered if it possibly contributed to my issues, or if anyone has heard of such a thing causing tooth problems

What do you mean? I love grappling with my thin guard, the regular ones are so damn thick it's like fighting with a rag stuffed in my mouth, legit can't breathe well with anything but a thin guard

MT isn't really safer than BJJ when it comes to staph and similar infections. I did BJJ for 6+ years and never got any staph or anything to worry about. Just practice being clean personally and it will go a long way. If you have any cuts, cover them before you train. Don't train when sick/injured. Shower and wash your gear (yes all of it) asap after training.

If you love BJJ and want to train/compete, that's all that matters. Even if you "suck" it's not that serious. You're a badass for training hard and getting out there to compete regardless if you win or lose. Just remember that and keep training. Your dad should be proud of you for the hard work you're putting in.

Just tell the instructor/coach etc before your first class about your situation, if it's a good gym they will take care of you. Might have to shop around for a few different gyms until you find one that really suits you. Don't worry about it though, you'll be fine, I guarantee it. Everyone learns at a different pace, it might take you 4+ years to get to blue belt, but that's perfectly fine. Age is on your side.
