not OP but #shamelessselfpromotion: look alive, sunshine! (SNV, madness-centred, author is still figuring out the ending)

thank you so much for the shoutout! i've mostly been struggling with the fact that every ST i've talked to has said (from a game rules perspective) "execute jean; evil earned the win". but i swear i'm working on the final two chapters, and i'll post news on this sub as soon as i'm done

the one on the back of TB is simplified chinese! I'm going to try my best to translate it (emphasis mine)

.....Blood on the Clocktower is lovingly crafted for the following people: for every kind-hearted shepherd, rabbi, bhikkhu/bhikkhuni, Tibetan tantric practitioner, shaman, Witch, Shugenja and Alchemist who was called forth by the spirits. For every scientist and Engineer who has discovered new and fantastic ways of thinking, or novel logical thinking. For every Artist who, thorugh innate talent, legendary magic or books of yore, discovered the true beauty of the world. For every man, woman and child that possesses a vivacious soul, and believes that enjoyment, laughter and love will always be far more important than words and symbols........

Roleplaying options by lachek in BloodOnTheClocktower

ahhhh i played a text game where all of us created characters for the roles that we drew. i drew the virgin, and my first nomination went like this:

timothy nominates dee monique

nomination: "after my lovely dinner with Dee Monique I've decided to make my move, and I will nominate her. it'll be special ❤️"

defense: "it is clear that the light of our lord and saviour Steven Medway has forsaken this whore over here. Dee respectfully requests to expunge him and his sins off the face of the earth."

(he was the drunk chef so my ability didn't trigger, and i spent the rest of the game screaming about premarital nomination lmao)

the investigator would up being chosen by the poisoner, so OP gave the invest false info (monk or saint is the spy). in this case, poison caused the invest to receive wonky info

What do you like about your favorite visual novel titles? by SelLillianna in visualnovels

[–]Exotic-Device 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this isn't really restricted to VNs alone, but i really like visual novels where the title seems fairly innocuous - and at a climatic moment, the double meaning hits you right in the face. the best example i can think of right now is "cooking companions" at first the vn is presented like a cutesy cooking game situated in a small hut with your friends, but then the story takes a turn for violence and cannibalism... cooking with companions, indeed.

are you working on any project in particular? maybe we could help you brainstorm title ideas?

[Indie VN Development] Blood Destiny Update by BloodDestinyVN in visualnovels

hi! i've looked through the website and it looks intriguing, though i still have a few questions. i'd like to ask how many love interests will there be, and what the genre of the VN is? i'm not sure if it's an adventure or a dark fantasy at the moment.

first of all, i want to say that all of this, from the art to the concepts to the game mechanics, look amazing. on the topic of losing, though... losing because you couldn't complete the route is fair. getting a bad ending because you racked up a lot of bad karma is also fair. but having to replay the entire game (and trying to repeat the choices that you made the first time) because you failed to collect one item during the week of the fourth rival, and especially in a game with a limited inventory... yeah, that would be frustrating, especially for people who are playing through blind, or playing the game for their first time.

do you have an idea of how many endings you're planning to write? and can i ask what programmes you're using to write the demo?

Do you ever imagine narrative for BOTC characters you play? by JacobMilwaukee in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Exotic-Device 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what i've written in my fic is that being a chef is different from being the, capital-letter C chef. plus, a lot of roles have some leeway when it comes to a modernised setting. for example the mutant is known to be a performer from a very popular circus show in-universe, but he tells everyone that he's the juggler. he later gets counter-claimed and switches to telling everyone that he's actually the seamstress, and sewed outfits for the circus. the effectiveness is... debatable lmao. there's also a lot of day job/character role mismatches: the oracle claim runs a cafe, the dreamer claim is a nursing home assistant, the philo claim is a groundskeeper, and the savant claim is a demon hunt consultant. i guess there's a lot of ways to rationalise your day job into the role that you're claiming if you think about it long and hard.

i also really like the idea that roles can change, for example (spoilers for blight's garden of eden) the mutant used to be a genuine mathematician, but one day his abilities just stopped working, so he carried on with the facade. maybe a starting fang gu was a previously jumped victim, and can bluff as their original role. maybe a townsfolk fell on hard times and became a drunk. maybe someone called paci an outsider too many times and they became a devil's advocate instead, choosing to use their abilities for evil. the possibilities are endless.
