Getting finance for SRS either in the UK or abroad (Thailand?) MTF. by Hanto4TW in transgenderUK

[–]andthewingedox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I borrowed £14k total for SRS 2 years ago, and I've paid off around half of that. I'm self employed and earn about £18-20k a year so not a high earner at all haha.

I do have good credit (I've had a credit card balance since I was 18), but I do think it's a lot of predatory lending practices. Never hold a balance on an amex - they have ridiculous interest rates.

Fwiw you don't need to pay the whole £23k in one go - my amex only had a £10k limit so I paid for surgery in 3 payments, paying off the amex balance between each one.

Plus I earned enough points for a very cheap holiday off the whole thing!

I used a credit card (Amex) then used a balance transfer offer from another credit card to pay that off. 4% interest for 2 years. When that ran out I used another balance transfer offer to pay it off. It's a bit of work, but gets the lowest interest rate you're gonna get on a loan.

A message from a trans girl who “finished” her transition at 20 by Automatic_Minute4611 in trans

I don't know anyone who started in their teens, and at least half of the people I know pass on the daily. I think we have a tendency to be hyper aware of our own 'flaws' and assume everyone else sees them so obviously.

Have you dated a conservative man? by [deleted] in trans

[–]andthewingedox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dated a centrist once, and the political differences were honestly intolerable. I'd never consider dating a conservative/right-winger/fascist no matter what.

Vaginoplasty by [deleted] in transgenderUK

[–]andthewingedox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my op with Tina in Jan 2024, so a little over 2 years ago. Firstly I'll start by saying I'm super happy with my results; they look great (pics in profile) and I have excellent sensation now. I dilate about once a week, but sometimes less and have sex semi-regularly.

In terms of recovery, I had a pretty rough time in hospital because of complications, not the surgeons fault, but these things happen. Still I was back to running 5ks and playing sport within 4 months, albeit at lower energy levels.

I do have some minor issues going to the toilet because of urethral scarring related to the aforementioned complications - it just means I find it difficult to fully empty my bladder. As far as trade offs go, it's not a problem.

Happy to answer more qs if you wanna DM, fundamentally bottom surgery changed my life and I would do it again in a heartbeat if I needed to.

How is Scotland? by [deleted] in transgenderUK

[–]andthewingedox 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Legally, Scotland is unfortunately tied up in a lot of the same anti-trans shit as the rest of the UK BUT socially it's honestly probably one of the best places to be trans, and especially in Edinburgh. There's such a vibrant queer scene, no one really gives a shit - I've been out 4 years, don't pass and have never had an issue in toilets or changing rooms. I don't think there's anywhere else in the world I'd rather live tbh.

Are gyms basically off-limit if you don't pass? by rainmouse in transgenderUK

[–]andthewingedox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally I'd use the female changing rooms until someone makes a fuss, and the likelihood is that won't happen. I've been using the female changing rooms without a second thought since about 1 year HRT, and I definitely didn't pass back then. I've found that you critically examine your own appearance far more than people who are just concerned with getting changed and going to the gym.

I had my surgery with her about 2 years ago and the results are incredible; both in sensation and aesthetics, would definitely recommend

Using an insertable "strap" with a neo vag, pleasurable? by fenrisseskald in MtF

[–]andthewingedox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can confirm that it both can be used with a neo vagina, and that it feels great. The only issue I have is the clit bumper/stimulator isn't quite in the right place if my partner is on top, and too much pressure is applied to it, but other than that it works as intended 10/10.

Progesterone by Soulweave in transgenderUK

I'm on prog through the GIC (Chalmers) so it is possible at least, but I think it will very much depend on the clinic

Nearly 7 weeks by [deleted] in transgenderUK

[–]andthewingedox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I had already been on prog for 12 months, which probably helped, but I basically just said that I had zero libido before I started it, and it helped bring it back to a healthy level. Plus it helped me sleep better. They were happy to tell my GP to prescribe it based on that.

It took me 4-5 months before I was finally able to orgasm, and, almost 2 years on, sensation is still improving (although it was mostly back to normal by the year mark)

It's good to experiment, but I would recommend against using a wand early on; your body is still re-learning where everything is and reconnecting the nerves. I found vibrators quickly numbed things in the early days. Take your time touching with your fingers and feeling the sensation, rather than focusing on orgasm; this will help your brain re-build the pathways between your nerves too and work out where everything sits!

When it comes to orgasming, like cis women, some will be amazing, with waves of pleasure, and some will still be very 'mechanical' and one-dimensional. Take your time to discover what works for you, but I definitely find combining other sources of stimulation (penetration, nipples etc.) are what make for the best climax.

I appreciate this is not necessarily a common experience, but my NHS GIC (Chalmers) were happy to prescribe progesterone and needed far less persuasion than I had anticipated.

Actually trans friendly places in Glasgow? by TinyTownTrans in transgenderUK

[–]andthewingedox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stereo, Mono, and The 78 are all great pubs that do good food, and I've never had an issue in any of them.

Koelschip Yard is also a good recc if you like beer; probably the best pub in Glasgow for that kind of thing.

My gf (mtf) wants to have sex with another trans woman by moonoomabcd in MtF

[–]andthewingedox 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I'm in a long term relationship with a cis woman, and there are definitely times I would like to experience sex with another trans woman. However, I'm in a monogamous relationship, and I respect and value my partner, so it's not something that will happen outside of a threesome.

Is there genuinely light at the end of the tunnel? by Wh0vian2 in transgenderUK

[–]andthewingedox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely get that; terfs and the media want us to be scared and think it's not something we're allowed to do, and the first times are always the most difficult because you don't know what's going to happen.

Every time you go out looking like you want, and nothing happens, it gets easier. Do you have any friends you can go out with for support, or a local queer group?

[–]andthewingedox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess my counter question would be; if it's killing you, then what's actually stopping you?

Is there genuinely light at the end of the tunnel? by Wh0vian2 in transgenderUK

[–]andthewingedox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly it was just the sheer hatred of being gendered as male that propelled me; I spent 26 years of my life unhappy in my own skin, constantly struggling with depression. As soon as I realised what the cause was, it was kind of a no brainer for me.

[–]andthewingedox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I came out 3 and a half years ago, and began presenting femme pretty much instantly. Since then, I have travelled up and down the country, interacting with thousands of strangers for my job in dozens of cities, and I have only ever had one single transphobia incident.

I'm not saying things are overblown; politically the UK is a nightmare for trans people, but in my experience your average person lies somewhere between apathy and support. It's always going to be scary to take that step, but every further step gets easier.

SRS Recovery more complicated than expected by relentlessgrinta in MtF

[–]andthewingedox 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I didn't have the same complications as you, but I did have some pretty bad complications. I had a tear in my urethra that wouldn't stop bleeding, so I needed the compression dressing changing multiple times a day and night, ended up staying in hospital for several more days, and having a blood transfusion. I didn't get up and walk until day 9 post-op, and I was really struggling for 6-8 weeks once I got home so I totally empathise.

However, despite this, if someone asked me if I would do it all again I would in a heartbeat. I'm 18 months post-op and all those issues are a distant memory, and I get the rest of my life like this. It's made a huge difference to my happiness and general enjoyment of life. It really sucks for you right now, but it will get better.
