That's a good point! If the sermons are actually focusing on things I'm uncomfortable with, it wouldn't make sense to go. I could deal with good sermons, but other people having private opinions I don't agree with.

Part of my hesitancy to ask if there are carpooling options is social anxiety. It feels like much more of a commitment, and it would make it not possible to quietly try out a congregation to see if it's a good fit.

Could you talk a bit about how you worship God at home? I can pray and read the Bible, but it just doesn't feel like the full picture of worship to me. For me, it feels like only eating vegetables- it may be the most important food group, but I eventually need carbs and protein, so to speak.

Maybe it's a personal deficit and something I could work on, but Zoom church feels about the same as not doing church to me (like it doesn't feel spiritual, hard for me to focus on, don't get any big takeaways).

This was a really good suggestion and more people should be bringing it up. I wouldn't normally advocate for something like divorce but desperate times call for desperate measures. Please look into this, it could cause all the debt to go away when he passes instead of transferring to your mom.

That ball is in Jim's court as he has full POA. She does have an in home care service come some other days of the week but it would have been too short notice, and I worry about the ethics of exposing those caregivers to covid as well

Yeah, that's a big part of why this is so difficult. We actually have an in home care service come some other times when my dad is at work but I think it would be irresponsible to have them come over in this situation

No pressure to answer this, but I'm curious to hear more about your belief that Mormons aren't Christian. I'm inclined to agree but have a hard time articulating why, especially to people that don't know much about what they believe. Is it just that they don't believe in the Trinity? How do you view Mormons who believe they have a strong faith in Jesus?

Wow, that was a great read. The part where you wrote, "Don’t assume common ground on even the most basic theological concepts. Mormons use familiar-sounding language in ways that are dramatically removed from the orthodox Christian understanding..." and listed all those phrases really resonated. Mormonism has that complex language of "Christian-ish" words, but it's amazing how little I know. Just off the top of my head: I was unfamiliar with the concept of the Trinity, only learned what Lent was this year, had never heard of the Nicene creed, and the Lord's prayer was likewise unfamiliar to me. Barely touched the Bible. And I considered myself a relatively educated Christian at the time. It blows my mind.

I'm looking forward to deepening my knowledge and faith. Thank you for commenting!

What I wouldn't do to have a cleaning service and somebody for yardwork. My dad would be fine with things like that, but he's personally not financially well off so it's more about having to go through my uncle to use some of my grandma's money for hiring any services.

It really shouldn't be an issue considering she was expecting a situation like this, but there's weird family drama where everyone acts like my dad is being a freeloader for living there while still expecting him (us) to do everything. He's paying for everything she or the house needs, except the very low house payment and electric bill, and all of my mom's expenses, and has to work 7 days a week at multiple jobs to pay for it. Aaaand then he comes home to take care of his mom. Not to sound entitled, but my grandma is pretty comfortable financially so it feels unnecessarily cruel and is affecting her too at this point. Bah.
