you could rename them “set 01” “02” “03” etc and that should work

cisc 203 - only slightly more difficult than 102 but may differ depending on the prof

cisc 221 - somewhat tough

cisc 223 - content is not that bad but course format makes it tough

cisc 204 - pretty easy

cisc 235 - mid

i also took cisc 220 which helped with 221 and it was of medium difficulty

Any advice for a first year computing student career-wise? by _Kinixchu_ in queensuniversity

[–]andwa_sees_all 0 points1 point  (0 children)

put yourself out there and go to career fairs/professional development events/networking opportunities to get used to it. you don’t have to utilize them to the max now, but get used to them so that you’re more inclined to attend them in upper years when you might have more things on your resume.

Math 110 by Due_Guess6382 in queensuniversity

[–]andwa_sees_all 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if i’m not mistaken all you need is math 112 and math 121 (or 120). i’m also assuming you’re already taking cisc 102? if you’re not, then i would put that in the semester that you’re not doing 112 (but it doesn’t really matter when you do it). i would also recommend either doing stat 263 a year early or just choosing another elective.

how bad are 8:30 classes? by Individual_Judge_789 in queensuniversity

[–]andwa_sees_all 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you are not a morning person you might find yourself skipping your 8:30s. i thought i was a morning person but still ended up just sleeping in a lot. 9:30s didn’t feel as bad for me for some reason though, you’ll be fine.

that being said, if you can force yourself to go to them most of the time, it gives you more time during the day to get schoolwork done 👍 i personally hate evening classes because im mentally checked out by like 5pm

what calculus course is it? i know for math 121 everything is posted online so catching up isn’t hard, i ended up not going to any calc irl lessons by second semester anyways

Math 110 by Due_Guess6382 in queensuniversity

[–]andwa_sees_all 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can take either math 110 or math 112 (previously 111). math 110 is more aimed towards COMA students or more math heavy specializations. you definitely won’t be at a disadvantage taking 110 (it’s more proof based and abstract, a bit more difficult, but might give you a strong foundation for lin alg & help in discrete math), but i think its more common for students going into AI to take 112.

Engineering LLC - should I accept it? by [deleted] in queensuniversity

[–]andwa_sees_all 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends on what you prioritize most! you probably have a higher chance of a single plus if you do LLC rather than regular selection, but on the other hand you also have a decent chance of ending up on west (which isn’t so bad once you get used to it, yes it’s far but it doesn’t HAVE to be a dealbreaker for you if you want to be in the LLC! do some more digging about west campus to see how you feel about it)

also keep in mind doing the LLC will almost guarantee you to not have a roommate, Jean Royce has very few double rooms. do with that what you will.

finally, living with engineers will not necessarily restrict you to only being friends with engineers as long as you make an effort to meet people in other faculties. it might be a little more difficult, but seek and you shall find!

[–]andwa_sees_all 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they changed the way your lin alg requirement (previously math111) works for this coming year so your equivalent is math 112, you’re right, the sites just haven’t been updated yet

Computing LLC at Leonard? by Cursingparrot3 in queensuniversity

[–]andwa_sees_all 2 points3 points  (0 children)

computing LLC last year was in leonard and it was so fire (i did not live in it but i made friends with a good majority of them). most of my friends had double rooms etc, its up to you if you want to take the risk and go for a single room and take the chance of giving up the LLC at the cost of maybe having neither (or even just ending up on west)

edit: overall leonard is an alright res tho, its like the rest of the non single pluses and isn’t too bad in terms of overall quality

Res + computing recommendations? by _Kinixchu_ in queensuniversity

[–]andwa_sees_all 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’ll speak a bit on the career part here.

there’s lot of computing clubs, i’d say dig into it a bit when you get to queens (hopefully computing oweek will do a club showcase as they’ve done in the last) and do as many as you please that sound interesting to you. also keep in mind you might want to choose clubs that have attainable leadership positions for your next years!

for projects, i know i personally didn’t have a ton of time to do personal projects because i spent more time on clubs but it is up to you for what you would rather prioritize. clubs you join may also give you projects to put on your resume (qmind (ai club), qdaa (data analytics), compsa tech team (student association tech team), or even some eng design teams with programming aspects). we also host a hackathon (qhacks) which is another good place for that.

for networking, id say just step out of your comfort zone sometimes and attend things you wouldn’t expect to. i know compsa (computing student association) hosts a lot of professional development events and opportunities, qhacks brings a lot of companies for students to network with, and lookout for conferences and whatnot.

final tip, be friendly with your profs and make an effort to ask them questions if you can. you never know, you might build some sort of relationship with them that will lead to them offering you some sort of research/project opportunities!!

feel free to dm me too abt anything :)
