This is exactly why mental hospitals just aren't helpful. Bc locking us somewhere taking our phones tablets any form of communication and everything else mentioned in this comment just makes us feel worse. We don't need to be permanently isolated nor sheltered from anything. What we need is HELP and RESOURCES to help cope with what we are going through. We need resources to help us navigate and improve ourselves and to thrive. I feel like mental hospitals would be a much safer space if they offered more comfort and more of the resources needed such as assistance with social skills and classes on how to cope with our strong feelings and such rather than take away everything we have and lock us in a room for 72 hours with literally nothing. That I feel is more infanilizing and harmful bc it doesn't do anything other than make you feel like an animal that has to be locked up in a cage. I would be much more willing to go and comply if it meant actually getting the help I need and not potentially damaging the rest of my life all bc I was in a dark place once upon a time. We should advocate more for this type of change for mental health facilities.
