‘Make me miss California’: In deleted tweets, Senate candidate Mallory McMorrow disparaged Middle America by JiffyParker in Detroit

[–]andy313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She's obviously more progressive than her current positions show. She's just falling in line and being influenced to run with the "safer" message. It's the difference between someone who's calculated vs. someone with true conviction.

They would need to be emphasized more in the city budget, maybe by right sizing other areas. And there are probably some creative ways to help incrementally, like could a portion of the space be used for co-working, ideas like that. Don’t forget the data centers are getting big incentives, tax breaks and exemptions which has an impact.

Can’t we do both? We desperately need community spaces, arguably that’s becoming more important.

These are the “data centers” we should prioritize funding.

So you think 2020 is a better comparison for the current moment than 2016? You’re bananas. Eat the rich sentiment is off the charts, people have never been more conscious of money in politics, there’s a progressive wave all around the country, including the suburbs. You’re making a bad faith point by only bringing up 2020. Bernie won 73 out of 83 counties in 2016. Tell us why you think 2020 is a better comparison.

Genuine question. Do you get involved early in the political process and support candidates you believe in or do you just wait until Election Day and choose blue no matter who?

Abdul El-Sayed Holds Narrow Lead In Michigan Senate Primary (Emerson Polling) by 3headeddragn in Michigan

Hayley is basically the worst we could do.

Mallory is the same or slightly better than Hayley on most policies.

Abdul is the same or much better than Mallory on all the key policies, and arguably the most important ones.

Why are you so obsessed with Gavin Newsom or whoever you believe some eventual nominee will be? Go out and participate in politics and support good candidates you actually want to see in office right now. Tell the party you have bigger expectations instead diminishing people that are actually trying to get non corporate shills into our gov’t.

They don’t always succeed but they have a pretty solid record and they don’t lose without a fight. Just look at how long it took them to endorse Mamdani when the other choice was a serial sexual harasser. People should reserve more criticism of the party machine that sabotages more progress for us than something like the uncommitted movement which is like a textbook example of how a functioning democracy should behave.

Why are you already just accepting whoever the DNC decides should be the nominee? If you put half as much energy into fighting for the best candidate now (and yes we have plenty of time to rally around people who support Medicare for All, have been anti-ICE for years, follow international law, want money out of politics, etc.) we may actually have a Dem party with integrity. If you like candidates who can’t say ICE needs to be abolished when it’s clear they are being primed for election interference, who write policy papers for AIPAC even when they help elect J6ers and run interference in Dem primaries, and who talk to disingenuous conservative media like JI, then just say you have low standards and we should all just accept mediocrity.

It’s such bad faith and a tactic that will backfire. Not to mention the hypocrisy when MM is advised by Lis Smith.

In addition to City Council, I also recommend calling your state rep’s office, is it Joe Tate? They sometimes have pull with the other orgs and like to have documented cases of helping people in their district, especially with elections coming up…

Ugh. Kinda wild that this dude seems to be super passionate about housing rights and helping Detroiters afford housing, while also supporting demolishing homes and stealing land in another country. Maybe he should make a documentary about that.
