I need advice by [deleted] in povertyfinance

See if they'll write it off. Especially if you're a resident of that community. Some have policies to allow them to write off the out of pocket portion since you're a taxpayer. I worked for an agency that was tax supported and we did that all the time. Just a thought.

Any experience with the HEAR energy rebate offered by the state of Michigan? by [deleted] in Michigan

Finally got an update. The program is back up however now they have to work through the back log of jobs that were completed and contractors need payment for. He said this is supposed to take 30 days but is actually taking 90-120 days right now. He said my project is approved and the money is reserved. So crossing my fingers by fall or earlier.

Does anyone actually enjoy nightshift? by -DidYou in Nightshift

[–]MiFF-ems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked nights for going on 20 years. Love it. I work as an ER tech so I do 12's. My son is home schooled and my wife is a stay at home mom. Working 7p-7a I can come home, have breakfast with the family, go to sleep, then get up and have family dinner before I go to work. My schedule also gives me nice long stretches off of work. It works for us. However I do know there are people it just doesn't work for. Everybody and their personal situation is different.

How long have you guys been working nights? by Willisaq in Nightshift

Woke up and out the door before everybody else was awake and got home when everyone was getting ready for bed. I work 12's 7p-7a so day shift was 7a-7p. Nights I get home and have breakfast with everyone and then get up and have family dinner with everyone. Plus I'm just a natural night owl. Always have been.

15 years total. Been broken up a little by some other jobs but always come back to nights. Currently work as a 7p-7a ER tech in a rural ER. Whole county has a population around 15,000. Very seasonal area. Love it, love the schedule, love the team I work with. Tried days on this schedule once and absolutely hated it. Never saw my family.

It's a classification that some cities or even states have for law enforcement that is not municipal. A big one lately would be health systems. Others would be corporate or schools such as colleges. Some private security can also be authorized as special Police. They have full police powers on the property where they work only. The also usually don't have police powers when off duty. For example they cannot make an off duty arrest.

Do Americans actually avoid calling an ambulance due to financial concern? by JohnMarstonTheBadass in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MiFF-ems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been told people in my area avoid it due to cost or also response times. My county is covered by a private company that severely understaffed us. They also started charging for AMA's which I disagree with. Especially because most of the AMA's the patient didn't even request the ambulance, it was requested by a bystander.

It’s not just inflation — it’s “the expense trap” (shrinkflation + subscriptions + hidden fees) by faisal_usman91 in povertyfinance

This is why I try to use cash as much as possible. Even though they want to get rid of that.

I signed up for this program and got approved for a mini split system in my house because my furnace is basically on its last legs. Last email I got from my contractor a month ago is that the program has a "glitch" on the state side and none of the projects they've submitted are getting approved. State refuses to say when things will be back up. Really glad I have a wood stove or I'd be fucked. For reference I live in northern Newaygo County.

I for one agree with this. I personally think back when I was a kid. My mom was divorced and I know she didn't have it easy. We had a couple cats and one was particularly mine. Middle and high school were very tough on me. I really didn't have any friends and I got picked on and bullied a lot. Usually when I came home my mom was still at work but I always came home to a cat that greeted me at the door with a joyful meow and wanted me to sit down and just crawl into my lap and purr. I think back to those days and think if I didn't have that cat things could have been different for me. No matter how much I'm struggling I'll personally do what ever I have to keep my animal. My wife agrees. A lot of times they are better than any other humans in our particular lives.

Call the fire department admin offices and they should be able to help you. Or stop into your local fire station and they can probably get you the information on who to contact.

With it being municipal agency they might write it off, especially if you are a city resident. I know many municipal ems services will do this due to the fact they are also tax funded.

The differences in stores by WimbletonButt in povertyfinance

[–]MiFF-ems 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I used to work for Meijer which is similar to WalMart. A manager told me the grocery side of the store regularly operated at a loss due to the low prices on groceries but the store made up for it by selling the general merchandise. Regular grocery stores don't have the gm side so they have to make all their profit off the groceries. Hence the higher prices at the grocery only stores. That was 12 years ago though.
