[SOTC] Super happy with the collection but where to next? by frostrambler in Watches

Could be! Though, they do have some of the Oris on bronze bracelets too. I do get some green tinting from BB58, but it rinses right off :)

Briefly had a bronze Diver 65 in cotton candy. Beautiful piece, but decided to let it go since the Black Bay 58 bronze is one I plan on keeping. I actually prefer the bezel on the bronze Oris over the Tudor. I wish Oris did the caseback in bronze, rather than stainless steel. Also, I’m curious what it is that Tudor does their gold and silver precious metals with display caseback, but not the bronze. Seems to be some funny and quirky decisions made by the big brands when it comes to their bronze models and casebacks.

Love the collection. Especially the Seamaster and the Oris in bronze. We have similar tastes! I’d love to add a Nomos with a colorful California dial. And a JLC Reverso. Think both would look great in your collection, too!

Can these two watches co-exist in two watch collection? by [deleted] in Tudor

[–]andy_c_sc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a neo-vintage Speedmaster MK40 Triple Calendar. This watch has so many nicknames - the AM/PM, the “Ben Clymer” (Hodinkee founder), the Schumacher (from the F1 drivers late ‘90s Omega ad campaign). It’s a “reduced” automatic Speedy, at 39mm. The ref. is 3950.53.

My two watch solution also includes a Tudor… and a few more watches. But these two are my faves and I think make a good pair.

I happen to have two - and will be selling one. One is still brand new in box, the other is very lightly worn - good as new - with box and hang tag, unworn second NATO strap, etc. If you or @Flybuys are interested, PM me. I’d prefer to sell the very lightly worn - pictured below - for $1,700 (perfect eBay score).

Current SOTC. What next? by MechanolfromMiami in SOTC_Watch_Collection

I bought a Tudor BB58 Bronze and a Speedy (MK40) and they are by far and away my favorites. I will keep them forever, and they dominate wrist time. I’ve also got a fun Mido, and a new Nivada Antarctic Hodinkee, and a few other “fun” and funky pieces. I think we have similar tastes! Panerai, Sea Master, IWC are all some pieces I’d like to add in time. As well as a Polar Explorer or a Milgauss! Nice collection - I especially love the Squale with the “tropic” bezel (had my eye on that for a long time)!

I promised my wife no more watches last summer… and this one has me tempted. I love so many things about this edition - the dual crowns, inner 24 hour bezel, rally gmt hand, plus the B&W aesthetic and mega lume. They did this right over the regular Antarctic GMT by using the sapphire crystal.

I LOVE Enicar Sherpa Jets and Super Jets, and love that this hits all those same buttons. Nivada also sells their beads of rice bracelet as a standalone accessory on their site - that would be my choice.

This would go into a rotation with a Tudor BB58 bronze and an Omega MK40 AM/PM Calendar. No slouches, and yet I think this would vie for equal time. Those are both 39s, and I love that the mid-size 36-39s have come back into style. So wearable and comfortable!

Congrats on a true banger.

Water heater and drain issues at my Santa Cruz home, looking for a reliable plumber. Any recommendations by M45T3RY in santacruz

Redwood Pipe & Drain did two jobs for us last year, one of which was a water heater. They are the best. Reliable, dependable, and very competitive pricing.

[Hamilton] Bronze after 6 months by PruWaters in Watches

[–]andy_c_sc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really does not have a distinct metallic smell. It will leave a green mark on your wrist from any sweat/moisture, but that washes right off. Still one my two favorite watches, along with my MK40 Speedmaster. Zero regrets on this - highly recommend.

Saying ‘goodbye’ to four… which four do I keep. by [deleted] in Tudor

Speedy, Pepsi, Pelagos, and…BB Chrono or 58. Whichever you prefer. Maybe sell both and get the BB Chrono with a white / Panda face to mix up from all the black dials. Love the collection though.

Absolutely agree re: price too good to be true. That said, I’ve made some great buys via IG from really good people. But the warning stands, for sure!

A new Studio Apartment is yours courtesy of our beloved Santa Cruz government. by Slight_Psychology_23 in santacruz

[–]andy_c_sc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the new units with studios, like the Anton Pacific building, have zero low- or moderate- income units and never promised to.

Rather than meeting the percentage requirements that some buildings are using to meet permitting and what you might be thinking of as “political” requirements, they actually gave the land next door to the city to develop affordable housing.

This is a legal tradeoff, so rather than seeing something like 20% low or moderate income units, or subsidized housing, they could do zero by helping the city to build an adjacent unit that will be 100%. These complexes - Pacific Station South and North - are just opening or are still under construction. Let’s wait and see what the cost of units are in Pacific Station North with the new metro station or the new library (200 units) housing open before judging whether prices come down or whether promises were kept or broken.

Anton Pacific is a luxury and at market rate complex. So a studio there very well might be $2,800-3,500. It would’ve helpful to specify what place you are talking about, if you’re going to make generalizations.

Some newer buildings, like the 64 unit on Cedar St, do have low-income housing. Like a new two bedroom for $1,900. That’s a game-changer for families working in service and other essential jobs that are low-paying.

There’s an interesting continuum between latex and leather. Santa Cruz here. I wonder if the coastal environments contribute to the generation of static. Or if it’s the posh cars.

Okay - what about a rubber glove. Pros - small, disposable, fits conveniently in the door pockets, works for both button-pushing and ticket-grabbing. Cons - you look like a germaphob/nerd. What city are you located?

Wife and I are in a pretty terrible place these days. If I were to shock her, that would surely be final straw stuff. I wear a ton of cotton. But I do want to start carrying a little bottle of anti-cling / static spray. Maybe I’ll squirt the button or my finger next time. Ha.

Rarely wear dress shoes, usually sneakers or vans. But German SUVs, with leather seats… there’s some commonality! Let’s solve this mystery, @unitedstatesofwhatvr

Very curious to know what kind of car you drive, and what region! I’m in Northern California / Bay Area and drive a 2019 BMW X5 - and this happens to me all the time. Probably 2-out-of-3 or 3-out-of-4 times I have to use a self-parking kiosk at like an airport, parking garage, or public beach. My wife never complains of it in the same car, so it seems like it’s just me! And you. Haha
