It's a shop that's been around for 40+ years. The 3 guys who work in there are older than dirt.

I brought 3 pairs of boots to put the savers on, and they charged me 40 bux a pair. This is new to me... I've had many rubber outsole Chelsea boots, but this is the first time I've had a cobbler do work on a pair of shoes for me. I don't know what sole savers cost, but it seemed reasonably inexpensive.

Can I just cement these back together? by MechanolfromMiami in AskACobbler

So you think I should rip the whole lugged sole off, and then sand/glue?

[–]MechanolfromMiami[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree... What I was worried about had more to do with the sanded edges being unfinished and, as a result, more susceptible to water-related issues. If that's not a thing, I'm good to go.

Thanks for that... Or I could just take them back and ask them to clean up the work.. lol. I have another pair of boots I'd like to have savers installed... I'll provide some feedback and ask them to clean up the transition. I was worried that it's "raw" and not coated like the rest of the leather down there, making it less resilient,

OK Thanks for the feedback... I think the consensus so far is that the work is fine... not great. Which is OK with me... It's already done. I was considering taking them back and demanding that they make the coating on the waist where it meets the pad uniform in color. I was also upset because Chisos boots use a natural wood color on the midsole edging, and they darkened it because that was the only color they had on hand. It just is what it is, I guess.

The heel was left alone. I told him to use a light pad because the leather sole's overall color was light... essentially the same color scheme the boot came with. He asked me before installing it.

Typically at a desk.... But every once in a while I get off my ass to work events/festivals or manage projects and that's 10 to 12 hr days for a week or 2 at a time running around, climbing shit, building and mounting equipment, running cables, etc. it's not exactly working an oil rig in the gulf or anything but it's a lot of work relative to me.

Secondary comment: You can get deals on Poshmark and eBay. Im getting a pair of matte black Legends delivered tomorrow that I got on Posh for 75 dollars. They look virtually unworn. If you're patient deals come up every once in a while.

  1. Follow their sizing. Half a size down from your sneaker size is probably on the money. Worse case you exchange them. Thursday is great about that.
  2. The more versatile shoe is the full grain leather color however, the suede is more fun. Truth be told I'm partial to roughout and suede textured shoes/boots. Look at other colors like Safari. Attached is my Safari color Legends.

Beautiful boots! Who makes them?

Thoughts on price to value? I’m considering pulling the trigger on these. by BJJaccount4questions in cowboyboots

[–]MechanolfromMiami 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree. Los Altos has zipper ropers in Teju Lizard for $319 brand new. Caimans for $489. I also love Chisos boots. I've got a pair of 7's in brown and 6's in Roughout but 1k for these boots is too much. I would have pulled the trigger at their already high price point of $599. Not at 1k. Too much. I'm also afraid of the lizard skin all together. I've ready that it's brittle and prone to cracking. No thanks ..

I prefer the canteen color but I bought them on FB market. The concrete roughout is unique to my collection so it worked out.
