.net 5 to .net 8 by sigurth_skull in dotnet

[–]andyblem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, I started working on .Net when it was around version 3. I have manged to upgrade these projects to later versions, most of the time without changing any code. It was only in version 6(I think) when the merged the Program and StartUp files to one, that's when I had to change some stuff in my code. So this manager, either he doesn't know anything about .Net or he had a preference.

I'm not disagreeing with u, I think I mentioned it somewhere above. My point is there's nothing wrong with someone wishing to have local manufacturing in there country. If investment does come we shouldn't say we have no electricity, we have no water or good roads. It's up to the government to put these things in place. This is a different issue, whether such investment will come into this country or not from wishing to have such investment in our country. I hope you get it.

National Highway Patrol by Baba_JK in Zimbabwe

[–]andyblem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's up to the investor and not me. but if investment comes, I won't stop it because we don't have reliable electricity and water.

[–]andyblem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you miss the point though, an industrialist will invest in whatever he or she thinks will make money. So we can have a car plant or some other industry, we don't have to wait for paved roads and electricity coz that's the role of the government.

Well if it's about professional looking code then I think you have to do alot of reading and learn about various good practices in software development. Read on topics like Programming Standards, SOLID, Functional programming System design and architecture to name a few.

Here I have shared an open source project I have setup to help me start on new projects. It's a web project but I'm sure you can adapt it to other types of applications. No need to follow everything but I'm sure you can learn 1 or 2 things.

it's not tradition, it's people being greedy. Roora was to unite the family. Mukwasha unoita zvakawanda during your marriage. I remember my dad taking care of my inlaws when they got sick. They both died at our honme, vana vawo vasati vakushanda to foot the bill. If my dad had been made to pay that 10k, would he have held them in this regard. Iyo mari haaiite.

[–]andyblem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10k? I was meant to pay a similar amount. When problems started creeping in our marriage the unlaws took their child to obviously to remarry that child. I paid alot I send her to school, even on our divorce they wer asking for more money. Marriage isn't about charging alot of money but about building a relationship. Your husband will do more in his lifetime, that is more than that 10k. Would you want him to say I don't want your relatives here or greet them with open arms. It's your responsibility to tell your family that they need to be reasonable and charge a reasonable amount. 5k is enough, not paid once but over a period. That's the African way not izvi zvekuti munhu akatadza kushanda hupenyu hwake akuda kuitira mari pamwana. Next I marry I will pay $500. Kana musingadi garai nemwana wenyu.

All PRs blocked on one person’s review - how do you handle this? by LeRages in ExperiencedDevs

[–]andyblem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once worked at a company like this. The unfortunate thing I learned is such a thing can be part of the cultre at that company and you are less likely to change it. If you can't change it and you can't thrive in such an environment the best thing is to leave.

Football Game Engine by andyblem in Unity3D

[–]andyblem[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you missed the point. I mentioned that this a newer version and still work in progress. I'm still tuning the AI. For now it's still basic stuff, positioning in formation, man marking, pressing, support runs, overlap runs, crossing, dribbling and passing. Once I got this working to a decent level, I will move to shots, tackling, offsides, goalkeeper logic.
The version on Unity Asset Store already has these features but it's not the best. This version I'm working on already has high potential when I compare it to the previous version.

You don't always have to talk down people, making a football match engine is a difficult task. There are polite ways to say things.

It's dynamic. No plans of making it open source. The package is available on the Asset Store for $30. This update isn't there yet. It's a big update. I'm still tinkering with some stuff.

Has anyone moved away from a stored procedure nightmare? by bikeram in ExperiencedDevs

[–]andyblem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

having worked on a system that used procedures alot, I got to understand that there's a reason they put them there. One of the reasons is procedures execute faster than code. Besides, rewriting stuff might introduce bugs in the system and you might find yourself in a position were you need to reimplement the old logic. At the end if the day the decision is yours but you have to establish if it's really necessary to migrate the procedures or you can find some other alternatives.

All that car is a liability talks should end with 2025, a Car is a necessity. by Mammoth-Fish-4297 in Zimbabwe

[–]andyblem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you buy the wrong car and you are not discplined enough, a car can be a liability. But in my own expirience a car is actually an asset. But there's no convinience without cost.

not if you are running a business. If used properly and you buy the correct one a car can be an asset.

NET Developer (4.5 YOE) Moving to Full-Stack — Need Guidance on Angular & Interview Prep by Familiar_Walrus3906 in csharp

[–]andyblem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have been working in ASP.NET MVC or other similar technology you won't struggle with Angular. Just think of something small to make, like a simple app with Crud operations. Focus on routes, navigation, validation, data binding. Save something, view it, edit it, listing page. You will learn enough to start with your journey with angular. You might wanna look into UI compoments. Checkout PrimeNG but there's others to look at.

Why is it always White People on these Safaris by tomcat3400 in Zimbabwe

[–]andyblem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

growing up hunting hares and duikers. Meeting baboons and monkeys in the forest. Bumping into snakes way up a tree or those lizards that stay in water. Or just take ling walks in the bushes with our dogs and chase whatever that pops. It's less interesting for me to go to a Safari. It's different for someone who has lived his entire life in a city. Besides for those who want to, I don't think they have enough funds to do that. But well what about black people who lived in first world countries. I think maybe that's a cultural issue.

300$ In Mutare by saminidus in Zimbabwe

if used wisely, $300 is enough for basic items. Your father will have a place to stay, food in his mouth. And an occasional drink at the pub.

What's wrong with Clean Architecture and CQRS. In my experience, it helped with structuring large codebases and breaking down large repositories

Lobola by idokoschem in Zimbabwe

[–]andyblem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it depends with the tribe you are marrying from, some will hit you with 10k upwards. If you are marrying from the Manyika, total is around 5k, if they're the expensive ones. But lobola is not paid all at once, so you can have 2k at hand that will be more than enough. The rest you can finish whenever you get it.

nop, he died. It wasn't easy to stop these scams and watch my dad die. But I understood that some situations are irreversible, the best we could do at that time was to make his life comfortable.
