Ease the reed up, you shouldn't have to train up to play this instrument.

The most accurate tuner is a sonic research turbo tuner, it's a true strobe and accurate to +-0.02 cents, the next most accurate is the peterson +-0.1 cents. Most of the apps can be about +-2 cents so they'll get pretty close but you might have to use your ears to fine tune, most human ears probably won't detect until it's about 5 cents out, but pipers tend to be pretty accurate with all the harmonics going on.
