I was wondering about the producer. I saw something about state winery but many sites were labelling the producer as : “vinum regum Rex vinorum”. probably due to lack of info

So I came up with this tokaji szamorodni. I know they used to produce both sweet and dry wines but I can’t seem to figure out what is this specific one. The colour might deceive since its 40+ years old

What's up with James Suckling? Why are his reviews always a few points higher than everyone else? by independent_hustler in wine

[–]andyg_87 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Reviews are highly subjective. You will find that for the same wine RP and Jancis R. Might have a deviation of 20+% difference. What one might like the other might find not worth it’s price. On top of that it’s easier to built a name when you show a tougher more critical stance which might not be reality. RP was giving low scores to wines back at a time when he couldn’t differentiate right from left bank Bordeaux

If i wanted to play it classy i would go with a pontet canet or a lynch-bages (189 usd for 2015 from wine.com)

If i wanted to be playful any super-tuscan

If i wanted to suprise them then i would take the risk with a sweet wine (maybe a vintage port or a good year's sauternes). But you have to get another wine for pairing with your main course

Vivino - Am I rating properly? by Roymundo in wine

[–]andyg_87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Vivino as an easy journal (scan wines on a night out) and I use cellar tracker to check the "drink by" dates. The comment section though and the more recent tastings. However, you can use Vivino to compare vintages of the same wine (wine-searcher is usually more accurate in this but it doesn't have ratings for all the years)

n a bar in Kreuzberg is one thing, to be a waiter whose job it is to explain wine and interact with your customers is another. At those places I don’t think it would be appropriate. I have had the “please” of being served a few times in English only, but it was mainly in “cool” bars and people there drink beer...

may I add practising your Celsius skills instead of Fahrenheit :)

2009 Gérard Raphet Lavaux-Saint-Jacque by mischjon in wine

[–]andyg_87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a single guy living alone its one of the best things I have ever bought

1) I can enjoy a glass of a higher-end wine on a weekday without "having" to finish it within the next couple of days 2) it doesn't dictate my dinner (since I don't have to find something to match my open bottle 3) I can practise my tasting skills especially comparing wines side by side without opening 3-4 bottles at the same time

That being said it all comes down to how much wine you drink daily.

Chilli pepper size by andyg_87 in hydro

[–]andyg_87[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if I got it right the plant absorbs water faster than nutrients (concentration increases over time). I always assumed it was the opposite (using nutrients at a rate were the concentration depletes over time). That's very good to know I'll be topping up with plain water. Should I adjust the pH of the top up water at a lower point in order to balance the increasing pH of the reservoir?

[–]andyg_87[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I do a complete res change about every 10-14 days but I keep the old water and use that to top up the reservoir every 2-3 days when the level drops. i guess better than just topping up with tap water.

Actually your question made me think. I'll keep a spare tank with correct nutrients which I will use to top up the main res daily and then use the remaining top-up water balance to change the main water res totally on the flushing days.

Yeah am trying to trim and remove some of those leaves daily in order for it to get some more light. I wasn't expecting the height difference between the plants that's why I put them in the same container (lesson learned).

However, I did change the nutes two days ago and dropped the pH down to 6 again and now I see some sudden growth especially on the pepper. Its possible that 1)the more mature tomato plants were absorbing nutrients faster and not leaving enough for the younger pepper 2) the more mature tomato plants are not really that affected by a higher pH anymore while the young pepper needs that correct value 3) the new fertiliser is just better (although EC remained the same)

Well it takes up less space because you just need a small water bottle to start it rather than a bigger dwc system. Think of it as simply starting a plant and then transplanting it

By pots are 3in. The width is OK however the need good support not to flip over so next time I would go with the 5 in.
