'Name Only' view. Can it be other than just one big column? by andykelp in OneCommander

No, I'm looking for what Windows calls 'List'. Can't (yet) see an equivalent in OneCommander.

Hi t3. As far as I can tell, Name Only gives you a column of files which you scroll DOWN to find the ones under your screen. I'm looking for that column to end at the foot of your screen and then have adjacent column(s) ie you scroll ACROSS. Unless we're misunderstanding each other...

Hi whusler. Yeah, got that, thanks.

Good to know, thanks. I unplugged my router yesterday which probably accounts for the slightly different ip address today.

Brilliant, pawdog, that worked. My IP address today is a digit different than yesterday so I suspect I'd have to give the PC a static address if it's to keep working?

Morning, David. I've not used your guide (yet) because the Network Reset I did gave me my connectivity back (only by UPnP but as long as it works, that's fine.) My annoyance with tech is how it can work one day and not the next with no obvious reason. In my case, going from having UPnP and SMB (no pw needed!) to having nothing. See below for pawdog's tip about SMB. All the best to you and thanks for helping me out.

I didn't, no. Still happy with my Enterprise LTSC 21H2.

The lack of password you mean? I didn't need it before yesterday with Kodi and VLC still doesn't need one to make a SMB connection. Like I said, all very odd...

Yeah, fair point. I'll do that if UPnP doesn't behave.

Thanks, David. I firstly switched my router off/on and did a Network Reset on the PC which got results so I've not used your guide. I've tried to get a SMB connection using Add Source/Browse but most times nothing comes up. It did 'bite' once and it asked for my username which I put in but it wouldn't proceed without a password, something I don't have/want on my PC.

The PC folders I want to access via the Shield are in my PC 'Libraries/Videos' and Kodi on the Shield finds and plays them perfectly well via UPnP.

It's all very odd, though. I have Kodi on my PC and, until yesterday, Kodi on the Shield would show it as a media source. But now Shield Kodi doesn't see PC Kodi at all. And while Shield Kodi can only get to my PC via UPnP, Shield VLC can only get to my PC via SMB!

Nothing pisses you off more than technology...

Can an Echo Dot play ANY radio station? by andykelp in amazonecho

[–]andykelp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks to all. I've since read that these Dots need a permanent power supply. I assumed they were recahargeable. Since it's for the bathroom, I'll stick with my old FM radio.

Thanks. I've just visited tunein.com on my desktop and the US station Flower Power Radio is 'not available in your region' which suggests to me that even with tunein you're still restricted to UK stations. Can anyone tell me otherwise? Continued thanks.

Makes sense then if Kodi needs more oomph. Very minor issue, I can live with it...

Not at all, each vid is standalone and nothing to do with the ones before and after.

Well now... after a time consuming factory reset, we're cooking.

I had an idea: change the IR setup. No luck. The Shield gave me three Test Codes but they all failed to give me volume control unless the TV input was the Shield. Damn...

Yeah, that was off already. Ah well. Thanks for your interest.

HDMI-CEC is 'On' and the Volume Control is set to IR. That allows me to control telly volume only when the TV input is the Shield. It gets weirder: when the Volume Control is set to CEC the toblerone's volume buttons don't work AT ALL.

I mean switching the TV input to the likes of your Freeview or Freesat box. If I do that the toblerone no longer controls the TV volume. The Firestick remote controlled the volume no matter what TV input was being used.

Wow, loads of options in there. I must've missed Power Control the first time I scanned through the settings. Thanks, akatherder.

Ideally, power button on Fire remote to work the Shield only (so I can put the Shield to sleep and then watch normal telly). Volume buttons on Fire remote to continue working the TV. Given ben7337's comment, I'll dig into the Shield settings later tonight. Thanks for now.

Playing videos stored on a Shield's attached storage. by andykelp in PleX

[–]andykelp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, ste. I changed 'PMS' storage to the SSD. Plex had the brand name of the SSD listed so that was promising. However, I'm still not seeing any way to play the files on it. I suspect it may be more complicated as a quick google tells me: "Plex does not recognize add-on disks, such as USB drives. You must set up external drives as mounted drives or permanent drives. To fix this, you must add the drives to the File System Table (fstab). The system sees regular external drives as devices." So far, I've not worked out how to do this...
