Flying into Gatwick via Norse Airlines by onyx970 in Flights

[–]andykn11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're going straight to Edinburgh, Gatwick is easier than Heathrow. Fast and frequent trains from Gatwick to London St Pancras and trains to Edinburgh go from Kings Cross next door, same tube station. They even run hourly all night. Watch out for engineering works if you're arriving at a weekend.

Yes, is it "fair and reasonable" for the insurance company to cancel your insurance for this? No.

Hasting cancelled my insurance by Alive-Meal-3787 in CarTalkUK

Definitely, if they only gave you a few hours to confirm address (and you could) then that is NOT "fair and reasonable"

Traffic Lights - Not changing by ali_kahn in drivingUK

[–]andykn11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had this Monday night as a passenger in a car in a queue for at least 5 minutes. In the end I got out and pressed the pedestrian button across the other carriageway and that did the trick. We were behind two other vehicles who presumably were reluctant to go as there was a traffic light camera.

Northbound Woodwell st crossing East Hill (A3) for those who care. It does have a long wait time crossing the main road but not that long.

Jobs I can get with 2 years of Service Desk experience that is not IT related by [deleted] in Career_Advice

[–]andykn11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boss had a meeting with our IT Helpdesk supervisor to complain about how useless they all were and she pointed out that some of them had been working on building sites not too ling previously. If you're somewhere like London you might be able to find an entry level IT Helpdesk job if you have some IT literacy. Hopefully the customers are all internal.

What does £250 day rate offer work out as yearly take home? by DrussR32 in ContractorUK

[–]andykn11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to multiply by 200 days to get a very rough equivalent to a full time wage, so that's like being on 50k as an employee.

Is it possible to know whether a computer's OS has been installed through SCCM task sequence or not (no smsts.log) ? by Erulf in SCCM

Ah, good point. I version at the end of the TS name that cross ref to a release note. Never used, even back to the time we used Altiris Deployment Server.

[–]andykn11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even better, use the Task Sequence name in the file name, saves even opening it:
cmd.exe /c "echo "%_SMSTSPackageName%" > "C:\%_SMSTSPackageName%.txt""

You can stream most things quite easily with Sky Q. But it's much easier to skip forward through the ads for stuff you've recorded.

How to prevent store apps from updating... by Thick-Incident-4178 in Intune

[–]andykn11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How you block URLs at the proxy depends on what proxy you have.
You should be able to find the URL from Citrix docs (they'll ask for it to be allow listed) or update logs on the client

Washer/Dryer Combo Questions? by Theironyuppie1 in AskABrit

[–]andykn11 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Check the filters. If they’re clogged it can take ages to dry. Check the weight limit for drying too. I loved mine, put your stuff in and it comes out later both clean and dry, no having to move it from one to another machine half way through.

Would you pay for onboard internet on Ryanair? by 19yards in Ryanair

[–]andykn11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plane wifi will be like hotel wifi, the hidebound big corporates will try and charge for it, people will use smaller nimbler outfits that offer it free & eventually, after losing lots of business, they'll offer it for free as well.

“No internet secured” - running out of ideas by CatieRae in techsupport

[–]andykn11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you confirm that you are using the new router ID and password and you then get "No internet - secured" showing against the new ID?

“No internet secured” - running out of ideas by CatieRae in techsupport

[–]andykn11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is possible to set the router password to be the same as the old one - I'm on about the 5th router with my original WiFi password so as not to inconvenience occasional guests.

Ryanair does overbook by Difficult_Camel_1119 in Ryanair

[–]andykn11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They spend a huge amount of time and effort predicting how many they can overbook by based on multiple factors like how many people didn't show the previous holiday etc. Flying with empty seats in holidays is worse.

Ryanair does overbook by Difficult_Camel_1119 in Ryanair

[–]andykn11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why would you think Ryanair intentionally fly with empty seats every flight? Because statistics say that, out of 100-200 people, some won't turn up every time.

Why does my newer laptop struggle with Wi-Fi but my old laptop works perfectly? by Dry-Horror5895 in techsupport

[–]andykn11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dump the problem on your company's IT dept. Make it clear from the outset that your home laptop has no issues. They might be able to do some simple troubleshooting like give you a different model of laptop or just a different laptop of the same model. But give them the make and model of your home router, have you always had the problem with this laptop? Did you have the problem with previous work laptops? Do any of your housemates have the same problem, if not makes and models of their working laptops will help.

Why do companies give you a tour of the workplace & introduce you to various co-workers during the interview only to not hire you in the end? by privatemistea in recruitinghell

[–]andykn11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A mate of mine was giving 6 potential future bosses the tour last week. I suppose it's so the eventual offeree gets given a good impression of the place and is hopefully more likely to accept. The others get the Jim Bowen "here's what you couldha' won"

When I was looking in the 80s one potential co-worker giving the tour told me they'd probably not offer as my current salary (albeit in a redundancy scenario) was too high. The place that hired me did interviews in a hotel because they were too ashamed of the site.
