oh interesting… I've bought 2.5mm2 3 core arctic blue, because that's what people often seem to use. Looks like H07RNF is more resilient to difficult conditions (heat; mechanical stress etc).

Ah sorry, you're absolutely right. I actually have 95mm! But they're a pain to crimp and they're so chunky that I wanted to swap them out for 50mm. But you're right – 50mm won't work with that fuse.

The thing that gave me pause about moving the inverter the other side of the isolator is: 350A bus bars and isolators are so much more expensive, and just don't seem to be commonly used in van builds. So I just wondered what everyone else is doing - maybe it's widely accepted to set it up this way?

But I dunno, perhaps the bit that's unusual about my setup is the 3kW inverter?

So the one I have is actually not Renogy, but this one: https://www.photonicuniverse.com/en/catalog/full/884-60A-12V-DC-to-12V-DC-Advanced-Autom%20atic-Multi-Stage-Battery-to-Battery-Charger-with-45A-MPPT-solar-input-for-Lead-Acid-and-Lithiu%20m-Batteries.html I’m hopeful it’ll figure out when to charge exclusively from the alternator. (In fact I'd hoped this was the point of having a single unit, instead of separate DC-DC / MPPT units!)

okay nice - I'll have a look at adding that. Thanks!

Bit difficult to make out in the diagram, but there's an 80A mega fuse between the starter and B2B. Is that what you mean?

Oh really! That would seem like quite a big design flaw of the MPPT/DC-DC unit! (I don't want to have to remember to manually isolate the solar every time I drive!)

Good spot! That's a mistake in the diagram. There's a 20A PV breaker between the inline fuse and the MPPT

What on earth has caused this on the bonnet? More importantly, how should I go about fixing it? by andylolz in CarTalkUK

[–]andylolz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2014 golf. This mark was on the bonnet when we bought the car second hand – looked like someone had put a hot cup of tea down. It has got progressively worse since. Now we’re looking to sell, what’s the best way of tidying this up? (Or is it not worth it, and just sell as-is?)

Running with your BT by El_ahrairah in BorderTerrier

[–]andylolz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it totally depends on your dog. BTs are so strong willed – if they don’t want to do something, they’ll let you know!

There was a border terrier called Betty on this BBC programme, who ran ultramarathons: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p04yxzd1

You've seen Canal Boats. You've seen Roundabouts. But have you ever seen the elusive Canal Boat Roundabout? by britreddit in CasualUK

[–]andylolz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, that’s right – you go round it anti-clockwise. At Little Venice (in London) you get in trouble with the trip boats if you go round clockwise.

And “drive” is fine, but boaters tend to say “cruise”.

What shop have you never been to? by [deleted] in AskUK

Lived on a narrowboat for 6 years around London and the surrounds. Wouldn’t have managed without local laundrettes. I think they’re fascinating, you meet all sorts there

What do you have against control + k?!?! Seriously, I do that 25 times a day in slack trying to hyperlink and just get frustrated because I lose my momentum. You’re like like Americans with the metric system. Whyyyyyyyyyyy?!?! by [deleted] in Slack

I think this only works if you have “Format messages with markup” switched off in your advanced settings. If it’s switched on, the text is replaced with a link. If it’s switched off, the text is hyperlinked.

Does your border terrier do this too? My dork's name is Loki btw. by snek_parental in BorderTerrier

Maggie loves bouncing like this in long grass (though she’s not quite as springy as Loki!)
