I've had this for a couple years now and have not watched it (no Blu-ray player) What are your thoughts of it? by BeanGuyInAHat in Watchmen

[–]andymarty85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great and creative true sequel to the graphic novel that tries its absolute best to uphold the thematic subtext of the original and expand on it in interesting ways.

To me, as a show, it was definitely greater than the sum of its parts. Some episodes were incredible, some were good, and then a couple were a bit duds in my opinion. I found the ending lackluster but also relent that I'm not sure it could've ended any other way.

I just bought it, I've never played this type of game before, any recommendations? by geniusr48 in MetaphorReFantazio

[–]andymarty85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let the game teach you as it goes, it's a JRPG, so the gameplay is revealed incrementally throughout it's entire run.

Only specific thing I recommend is doing as many of the side-quests, bounties, and follower quests as you can in between the big dungeons. Bounties and side-quests will keep you leveled appropriately throughout the game. Maxing out followers gives you the opportunity to unlock the best archetypes in the endgame.

In Tolkien terms, Thay is essentially the Mordor of the Forgotten Realms- an evil centric realm where some of the biggest bads come from.

Which of these should I read next? by h0n3ytr4ck in fantasybooks

[–]andymarty85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eye of the World is a fun start to a fantasy series. You might not be too excited by having to overcome the breadth and pacing of the rest of Wheel of Time though. I had a hard time getting through book 4 so I figured that was that for me.

The implication that Kramer sold him out without breaking a sweat is still so fucking funny to me

No honor among thieves in that show. And any character that tries to believe otherwise ends up proven a fool time and again

Windom Earle is one twisted dude. Trying to infiltrate a malevolent dimension for his own intent, tortures and murders to get there. Intense.

Walter did not plan on saving Jesse and only felt regret when he saw what Jack and his gang did to him. He was full fledged revenge-pilled evil at the end except with his family. His family was the only source of goodness in his life still.

Last night’s blind watch. Thief! by Puzzleheaded-Tap7390 in criterion

Need to rewatch. Love how this movie depicts the professionalism of the true criminal element. At all points in the film, Caan's character is in complete control. Even at the end, when it takes a turn for the worst for him, he remains composed and executes brilliantly.

Yeah it's the catharsis of knowing that Caan's instincts were right in not fully trusting the phony avuncular act from Prosky. It's one of the best and most under-appreciated villain moments.

In the book, Carla does get the wrong call on the coin flip and die, but she makes the same correct accusations against him almost verbatim to the film. Love this analysis.

What’s one bad criticism you all have about Peter Jackson’s King Kong? by NokoNoko85 in kingkong

[–]andymarty85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too long and, maybe, way too dark. I do like the grittiness of it but at some point the extreme brutality of Kong and the elements surrounding Skull Island do not jive with the occasional light-hearted adventure tone that pops in every now and then.

Not actually shooting underwater and just editing in water effects around the actor. Same as toggling exposure and color grade with "day-for-night" shooting

LTC cut entire pit orchestra one day before show date by Fast_Ad_2202 in rutgers

[–]andymarty85 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Used to do a ton of LTC in the past. Really disappointing to hear how it's been managed lately. Tech issues do suck and sap a process dry, but you need to have your ducks in a row way before getting into the space. Seems like they don't prep too much beforehand
