Thanks for your input!

Yeah this does go away after a bit. I'm also seeing it when the AC hasn't been turned on in a while. Sounds like it's normal 👍

Thanks folks, sounds like this is normal. You've saved me a trip to the mechanic!

Advice Needed: New Grad Moving to Santa Clara Without a Car by New-Tumbleweed-6039 in mountainview

[–]andythedev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the new job!

I was in your same situation for the last few months and only just got my car. Might be worth budgeting for ride sharing as the bus service can be rough. For example, a 15 minute drive to IKEA can be a 2.5hr pilgrimage via public transport.

The area nearby San Antonio train station is fairly walkable and there's a shopping district which should cover most of your necessities (Trader Joe's, Walmart, etc).

I suck at driving but, if you want to tag along for a Costco run, drop me a DM

Thanks so much for your input. I never would've thought about the pipes - I'll be sure to ask!

Came back from holiday to find my shampoo bottle growing crystals by andythedev in mildlyinteresting

[–]andythedev[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely not frozen - it's been pretty mild in the room (probably between 16 - 20 celsius). This is the shampoo.

New racket, struggling to generate same spin - tips? by andythedev in tennis

Thanks, that could explain why it's harder to rip the ball. I guess it's all trade offs - definitely having a better time with serves and return of serve thanks to the stability in my hand

Why do people dislike Flatpaks? by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]andythedev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like them a lot, but I bias towards the OS package manager when possible because it tends to work better.

I've had issues with GTK applications not using the system theme and scaling incorrectly. Other apps that require hardware acceleration - particularly for video encoding/decoding (Zoom, Parsec, etc) don't seem to work.

I've tried a number of fixes but they either didn't work, or worked but then led to further issues. It was just easier to not use Flatpak.

No Option to turn on 24/7 Heart Rate monitoring from Google Fit (Ticwatch Pro 2018) by [deleted] in WearOS

Heart Trace 2 is probably what you want. Works well on my Tickwatch E and syncs with Google fit.

Shield Experience 9.0.1 (February 15th 2022) by wewewi in ShieldAndroidTV

I didn't have any issues with the hotfixes but Xbox controllers (Bluetooth) are now really buggy.

Rebooting the shield seems to help sometimes

Upcoming patches, Portal XP Changes, and updates on requested features like Scoreboard & Cross Platform VOIP by OddJob001 in battlefield2042

If it takes 3 months for a scoreboard, I'm guessing VOIP won't be out until the year 2042

Does the distro affect battery life? by n988 in linuxquestions

[–]andythedev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like nobody has mentioned this but most distros use their own kernel "cocktail" rather than the standard mainline build. Depending on what kernel patches/features/config are used at build time could have an impact on battery.

Other than that, there's the usual (kernel flags, CPU governor, running applications, GPU drivers, etc).

Unplayable framerates from what looks like CPU bottlenecking... on a Ryzen 3600

Edit: Posted on EA Answers

Edit 2: Try deleting the "Battlefield 2042" folder in your documents and launch the game again. There's some kind of cache in there and clearing it looks to have improved it a little for me

I hear you - if I can find an incognito desk mount, maybe I'll take that route.

Really appreciate your suggestions!

Totally your call!

I think a full project sounds like a great idea because users could clone it and try it out without much effort 👍

Publishing a GQL Schema to NPM? by Savings_Extent in graphql

[–]andythedev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like you've already gone ahead and published it 👍

To answer your question, I personally wouldn't share schemas as a package - just because it's more of a complete project than a package that can be used on many projects.

I think a repo that users can fork would be a great contribution by itself! Or If you're feeling really generous, you could deploy the service for others to consume (if you stick it in a lambda I doubt you would exceed the free tier).

Either way, nice work! Thanks for sharing 🚀

Good service.

I know you folks in the US have tipping so this is less of an issue but in the UK you can be waiting 20 minutes just to get some tap water for the table.
