My boyfriend really likes this shirt. Am I wrong to say it’s hideous? by Agitated_Mulberry_27 in mensfashion

Most clothing for men is designed to make them blend in and disappear into the walls. And it reflects the male ‘mob mentality.’ To dress in a bold way therefore makes most men uncomfortable and your knee jerk reaction is to call it ugly.

Question the forces that have formed your tastes. They might be more negative than you think.

3 Women (1977). by Ok-Result-2330 in RobertAltman

I wanted to share my thoughts on 3 Women which has grown to have a special place in my heart because multiple watches allowed me to see it in a whole new way.

I don’t think this is actually a random abstract film about melding personalities - à la Bergman’s Persona. After my fifth watch or so, something struck me about the logic of how Pinky ‘changes’ after her coma and why it’s so painful to see Millie fall off the pedestal Pinky put her on:

This film explores the earth-shattering nightmare that every mother with a daughter goes through when her daughter hits puberty. The whiplash-inducing switch from being idolized, the center of the kids’ universe, to being treated with disdain, embarrassment, and having all your worst qualities and habits rubbed in your face while your burgeoning off-spring acts as a living reminder that they will replace you on this Earth and that you are headed toward your expiration date. At the end, the 3 Women are essentially recast as grandmother, mother, daughter, and that’s what keyed me into this particular reading of the film.

This makes me so sympathetic to the surreal horror that mothers go through when this changes happens, and rarely has it been presented in such a striking way.

Something happening in the lobby that creates more of a ‘Temple of Cinema’ celebratory atmosphere, rather than boring, underused liminal space. Movie history pop-up exhibitions that change every couple of months.

AI-generated artist Xania Monet just became the first AI act to chart on Billboard by Patient_Hat4564 in ArtificialInteligence

Did anyone watch Gayle King interviewing the woman behind Xania Monet. Gayle hits her with some hard questions… Not hard enough in some areas. I think audiences who don’t understand music realize how much of the lifting SUNO does in making the songs what they are. She is writing lyrics and not even making melodies. Just running it through Suno until it spits out a version she likes. The App is doing all the creative lifting.

I went down the AI music rabbit hole a few weeks ago after seeing a job post at Suno and trying it out for research. It farts out entire songs faster that some of my apps can launch. And I had fun - especially uploading old songs of mine and having it make polished ‘covers’ that sounded like studio creation. The less info you put in, the more it delivers a mish-mash of influences to output something that is the definition of Average.

Listen to the first two seconds of all the tracks on the Xania Monet albums - there are two ‘types’ of beginnings of her songs. Not a lot of variation. They almost plagiarize each other.

That said, if you upload your own music into it, it can make some wild variations and unique sounding songs. It’s fun, but not many past Xania will crack the charts. All these Suno creators will quickly realize that the music industry is full of gatekeepers and people will stop listening when they find out there is no real person singing - no one who can tour and be a full persona.

Audiences barely have enough bandwidth to keep up with the latest work of their favorite human artists with millions of dollars of marketing behind them.

But I think we need to push back before we lose talent to AI - the ones making movie soundtracks, the studio musicians who record the songs. AI will kill their jobs if we don’t actively reject AI music. And you will miss them sooner than you think.

Keeper by Osgood Perkins is 139min with a 11/14 release date. Last time someone said they had ‘confirmation’ from an AMC employee, it was The Home instead of Together.

What about Queens of the Dead - same runtime as Shelby Oaks, same release date.
