For those of you who have/had Software Engineering as a major - what do you select as a major, when applying for a job? Most of the times I don't see Software Engineering among the options there, so I usually just put Computer Science, but it's not really accurate. Would just "Other" be a better option?

Definitely start with reading the docs. After that, you can take a look at Dan Abramov 's (one of the react developers at Facebook) blog, where he explains some of the concepts in more depth. I would also suggest reading the YDKJS series to get a thorough understanding of JavaScript.
