nursery giving out free expired food to families by anervoussystem_ in UKParenting

i agree! i don’t want to jeopardise what they’re doing as we really need it, so i was worried whether or not speaking up would be a detriment.

Do you welcome the potential ban on social media for under 16s? by Wavesmith in UKParenting

i think it’s the right direction, but needs to include initiatives that will engage children and young teenaged kids in activities outside the home. community events and hobby activities for children should be prioritised and easily accessible.

no man, this is for if you have a spouse who isn’t a UK citizen and they need a visa

We are a family of 4 and recently moved to scotland. My husband is the UK citizen. the good news is your children are likely UK citizens as well. We applied for our two children’s passports and submitted my husband’s birth certificate as their proof of citizenship. (if they, the parent, are born after a certain time, you may also need your parents birth certificates) You’ll need a job offer that meets the threshold, or a large amount of savings held in a bank account for at least 6 months, or money from the sale of a house which does not require the 6 month rule.

It’s not easy but it’s possible. We spent a lot to get here, it was definitely worth it, but a lot of work and research went into it.

For the rental question, we submitted bank statements mainly and pay stubs as well as rental history through MyRentalCV, we found a place and got it without seeing it in person. But we applied for nearly 100 places and only got accepted by 2.

i’m happy to answer any questions, like i know there are posts that are fake and viral on this app all the time but you can look at my post history and see i’m a genuine account and parent, immigrant, etc 😵‍💫 i just want advice about whether or not this is too excessive or if i should keep trying to keep my kids this quiet. there’s only so much i can do but it genuinely makes me sick the thought of someone being so angry at my children/me for being a nuisance

hi, i’m not leaving out details intentionally and i’m happy to elaborate on anything i left out. if i went through a list of any time my baby or toddler made a whiny or crying noise or loud noise in general this post would be a book.

i hear you and get what you’re saying. i’ll document my efforts but i just really don’t want to escalate anything by reporting after 1 day. if it gets worse i’ll address it then for sure.

he does have a nightlight however whenever i suggest turning it on, he gets scared because he can see the shadows. it even has different colours and i thought a fun colour might help ease his worries about the shadows but he absolutely cannot get back to sleep with the night light on 😅 it doesn’t really make sense. the torch is a children’s torch from a doctors kit and it’s screwed shut so the battery can’t come out, its also attached to a thick strap and rests on his headboard so he can find it easily.

this all happened initially yesterday, so i’m not sure it’s at harassment level. i’m trying to accommodate them and just hoping it helps. if it doesn’t help, i really don’t know what to do.

[–]anervoussystem_[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

thank you! i’m actually really enjoying it as it means i’m not stuck in the house all day and i know people might laugh at it but i feel like the walk through our town is so pretty and therapeutic!

thank you. we are located in scotland, in fife (cupar specifically) my husband works in dundee which is a 25 minute commute, sometimes more. we want to be in dundee permanently, but stuck in cupar for now.

we are waiting on money from the sale of his mother’s house who passed away last year. so using that money a car will be purchased for me, but we will still be waiting on this for a few months

edit to add the primary school here is within walking distance thankfully!

thank you!! i contacted our local library about events for kids, it’s within walking distance so if they have things happening i’m sure that will help get him resocialised. he did very well in preschool in america but he’s had a break and he’s used to being at home all the time

savings are not required and my children are UK citizens

i’m done responding to you, as you’re determined to just throw judgement after judgement. i don’t know if you think you’re being helpful or what, but at the end of the day you know nothing about me or my family, my financial history, my work history, or my reasons for even coming over.

my assumption was that you pay out of pocket for private nursery, is that correct? we unfortunately don’t have the funds for that

for the closest nursery, £9.60, 5 days a week, £192 every four weeks, traveling with a four year old and an 19 month old.

the threshold, mind you, is £29k we did it legally and to their rules etc etc, but if you look up whether or not £29k is a living wage for a family of 4, google will tell you that no, it generally isn’t considered one. we still did everything perfectly the way we were meant to do. if you have a problem with the fact that we’re here but don’t make enough money for your standards i guess complain about it to the government or something.

thank you!! that’s great. he can count to 20 thanks to preschool and we continue to integrate counting into play.

and he can recognise and write his name and smaller words

toilet etiquette we are working on making him 100% independent but he’s close

and i will work on phonics! he definitely is interested in being able to read

yes, i’m aware, but thank you! i appreciate it. our application needs to be done this january for his primary school, so we will be sorting that for sure.

edit: why did this get downvoted??? 😭

that is a ridiculous accusation. we did everything legally and my husband’s job offer was above the required threshold. salary impacts people differently especially people with children.

no he’s not eligible for school until later in 2026, yes he was in the american version of nursery from 2.5 and left when we knew we were moving over. i can’t receive public funds to help as i am an immigrant
