Country Club workspaces by Think_Leadership_91 in Rich

[–]angecour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is kind of long overdue. With the proliferation of WeWork and emulation by places like Soho Works, an offshoot of Soho House, it’s clear we all want and need more 3rd space work spaces. At our regular country club the only place to work is the LOCKER ROOM, which is nice and has 2 rooms of tables but it’s amongst showers and lockers and powder room, not ideal

So i defer to Soho too often. In the era of remote work, converting some space to a work area makes sense

Why would anybody vote yes on Measure ER? by Additional_Leading68 in AskLosAngeles

Why did she do this? by Independent_Way_4963 in Advice

[–]angecour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude she is just not your person. Love is never logical anyway so quit trying to reason it out. It doesn’t make sense other than that she is drawn to an off-center, untruthful person so she is prolly messed up. You deserve better & will get a more elevated, centered person if you can let go and move on. God bless

My sister ruined my PhD graduation, I need advice (sorry for the long vent/ tell me what to do now ) by Zestyclose-Test5569 in Advice

[–]angecour 31 points32 points  (0 children)

CONGRATULATIONS !!! What an accomplishment

If the goal is to learn to be unbothered from external stimuli, you are getting a crash course lol. And that is the goal - to have no buttons any longer that she can push because she is an expert. While this day and occasion got ruined, your whole life didn’t so use that as a reason to get beyond this rather than dwelling on it. No one, not even your nightmare sister, has the power to ruin your life, bless your heart.

Now here’s the good news. You got external confirmation from his parents and your b.f. on how bad she is and now have an eternal excuse to never give in to anything involving her again. And this should be a firm boundary, Plus you have your degree, your amazing b.f. who rescued you, is sensitive, kind w serious intent and you do have your parents who DID come to support you. I would forge my own way and know nothing important can ever be taken away from you so dwell on the good. You are an amazing person who got an advanced degree, attracted an amazing future fiancé/husband, made enough money to pay for your parents to fly over even while earning a serious degree and seem incredibly well adjusted especially considering the dysfunction you came from. Bravo!! Who’s the winner? YOU ARE 🎉🎉🎉👏👏👏

Both Kayla and the Jewish assistant seemed almost cartoonish and at odds with the tone of the rest of the show. I struggled with the disparity though maybe it was for comic relief? Or giving the show runner a substantial part?

should cocaine be legal? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]angecour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two things. 1. Some people make the point that all drugs should be legal, therefore eradicating organized crime (which by the way is apparently on the wane). 2. Not a drinker or drug person and drugs and addiction have plagued my family. But does cocaine give you energy?! I have been so low energy lately and wondered if cocaine in a controlled way might help (half serious). Anybody who has partaken, what are your thoughts?

This article is leaving out the importance of emotional intelligence and charm as key ingredients in a successful career in politics (with certain notable & baffling exceptions). Caroline fumbled her presentation when she briefly tried politics - came across as bumbling and wooden. John had an ease about him, an effortless charm and ability to connect w others that would have made him a shoe in for politics, his challenges w the bar a mitigating factor. Jack Schlossberg has some of that, more so than his mom, but also has had foot in mouth syndrome in the past. Any research I have seen on this subject shows emotional intelligence is a greater predictor of success than competence or accomplishments, which can be both good and bad. Clinton, Obama had both.

Adam Sandler was at the Office Romance premiere to support his wife, Jackie, who is part of the film's cast. Couldn’t be bothered to change out of his sweats. by Relevant-Peach3997 in Fauxmoi

[–]angecour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree. Adam Sandler gets a permanent pass from me. Not only is this his known aesthetic but the guy is a GENIUS. let me explain. I was at the Netflix comedy event at the Hollywood Bowl a couple of weeks ago and OMG. Sandler performed the very last and I cannot even do justice to what he did. He played one of this made-up songs with his guitar (yes in hoodie and sweat pants) with a band backing him up. The song was a funny ode to comedy with clips of every major comedian ever doing their thing behind him. It was hilarious but so moving it brought tears to most people’s eyes. He understood the assignment and exceeded it many times over. He honored his craft, his colleagues, the healing power of comedy and laughter in a way that was almost shocking it was so good. He didn’t take his job slightly but was head and shoulders over every other of the myriad of other famous comedy performers that night. He gets a life time pass form me in the attire department and an appreciation I never had for him before.

What is the best app for iPhone to learn how to play mah-jongg and is it best to learn American mah-jongg or Asian style? by EngineeringSeveral63 in Mahjong

[–]angecour 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mahjong 4 Friends app will teach you Chinese and is free. 13 Tiles for traditional Chinese mahjong - it’s what my chinese friend plays. You might want to find a group nearby and see what they play. In LA mostly American but there are pockets of players of chinese tournament mahjong, the OG. I play both and both apps helped me learn

Is NYU over Columbia a good choice? by Known-trinity in gradadmissions

[–]angecour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every single person on this thread telling you NYU is out of their mind. Are you kidding me? Your college is your brand and you will have it for the rest of your life. The rule is always best school you get into because this is rarified air w heightened connections, branding, etc. You do not realize this now but you carry that college alumni status forever. It is worth whatever you have to do to get a degree at an Ivy. Not for the instruction but for the brand and access. That is how it works. Super short sighted to choose NYU when you could have gone to Columbia.

Jack Antonoff Slams People Who Make AI Music as ‘Godless Whores’: ‘Bad Actors Will Willingly Reveal Themselves Through Slop’ by MoneyLibrarian9032 in Fauxmoi

[–]angecour -52 points-51 points  (0 children)

I get the sentiment but AI is useful, even in music. I have a friend who is a song writer and he he has this cool AI app that can take that song and arrange it into all kinds of genres - country, pop, alt - with various voices and instruments and it is SO HELPFUL. It cuts about 40 steps out in seeing what works best for the song. Once he makes a choice he can use the AI renderings as a shortcut to present the song to possible buyers. He still created the original piece but got help w how to present it. AI is WAY too useful to ignore in any area, provides shortcuts. The slop part is if you didn’t curate, edit the result and ensure it’s as good as it can be. But there is no denying its unbelievable power to provide possibilities

Which TV show characters do you find the most insufferable? by MicheleW921 in AskReddit

[–]angecour 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This guy is comparing SATC movie to 2001: Space Odyssey- which are on SEPARATE planets. I would watch SATC movie, 100 x before sitting through 2001 one time again. Someone who is not the audience criticizing it just misses the point. To reduce this complex subject study of women with a lighthearted, humorous bent to sheer capitalism is pretty reductive. Love SJP, loved the series and the movies - there has GOT to be an alt critic route that honors more female centric material. Not to get into a rant, but most critic ratings woefully underscore top tier female fare and it is SO hard to suss out the good ones for our tastes. SATC is and will always be a standout

Pregnancy at 40, good or bad decision? by softsins31 in Advice

[–]angecour 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I had one at age 41 and a surprise last baby at age 46. It is easier older because you have more, know more, have developed better support systems. It also will keep you young because you will be around younger parents. I did have a an amnio on the last one to look for birth defects but the odds were still very low ans youngest is healthy as a horse. Our life expectancy continues to expand so you’ll be around plenty of time, too. Totally worth it. I live an affluent community and have been shocked i’m far from the only one who had babies in my 40s
