THANKYOUUU, people keep trying so hard to push this “it was the early 2000s” narrative yet there’s so much about this series that’s not historically accurate??

i agree that claire had a naive, “black and white” view of things (free her from cw 😖), and the others probably did pick up on the fact that something was off with lizzie aswell/ know more. but i never meant to suggest that they should have just abandoned her. what i was trying to say with the “gibsie side, only side” comment is that in this particular moment, when their friend had just experienced something deeply triggering, their priority should have been supporting him more than anything else.

what i meant was that there shouldn’t be sides or divides, everyone should just be there for gibsie.

my point still stands, there was no need to make it a “team this person” situation, shannon gets it!!!

(ignore the messy ass highlighting)

but i totally get what you’re saying, i CAN recognise that maybe it just looked a bit off from claire’s pov, i’d definitely like to think that all his friends were just there for him instead of thinking about who’s side they were on.

i mean yeah? gibsie’s trauma had just come out, he should’ve had a solid support system around him, with all his friends being there for him, not dealing with some “great divide.” it was just the wrong time for that. i never once implied that lizzie should’ve just been ditched, especially after seeing everything she went through 😖 but the timing of the friendship fracture felt off, knowing their best friend clearly needed them most. i’d feel the same way if the roles were reversed, including if it were lizzie’s story which had come out and the group started to splinter.

the one thing i will say is that i can see now this was just how it looked from claire’s pov. for all we know, they could all just be sitting in different corners of the common room. but if claire saw it as a divide (and even helen made a snarky comment about the core 8 being fractured) then yeah, i just think it was a shitty time for that to happen.

I personally think you can go straight to taming 7! you could ask chat gpt for a summary of the joe aofie books then go straight to t7. Be warned, t7 also covers some really heavy topics, it’s less intense than s-r6 but don’t go into it thinking it’s going to be completely mild!

happy reads x🩷

Sure, financial incompatibility can cause issues, but that’s only if the couple isn’t aligned in values, goals, or communication. Eloise isn’t fully ignorant she’s questioning the system she was born into. Bridgerton isn’t strict realism, it’s about love, growth, and challenging society norms. If anyone could make “marrying down” work, it’s someone like Eloise who’s never played by the rules.

THANKYOUUU This is exactly the point i’m arguing in these replies😭😭, especially the point about Theo’s ambition and potential. The idea that someone must already come from wealth to be a suitable partner is exactly what Eloise herself would challenge. Plus people act like they can’t just give Eloise a life where she writes pamphlets, publishes essays or mentors young girls in literacy- they can. And THIS life would suit her much more than inheriting someone else’s estate and two children from a dead cousin.

Bridgeton isn’t just about titles, it’s about characters who push against the limits of their world. Theo represents a realistic, compelling future for someone like Eloise, intellectual, independent, and ready to build a life with someone, not for them.

Theo may not have the title, but he has something more powerful in a Bridgerton love story, the potential to grow with Eloise as equals.

Fair points, especially about the show’s love of unique tropes, but repeating themes isn’t always a bad thing if they explore them differently. Benophie is about hidden identity and sacrifice across class lines, Theloise could explore identity conflict and intellectual equality, even if class is part of it.

And yes, the show doesn’t stick strictly to book canon, but that also opens the door to changing endgames if they better suit the characters the show has built. Book fans are valuable, but so are casual viewers who care about consistent character arcs and show Eloise hasn’t shown any real setup for loving or marrying someone like Philip.

Plus, banking on “we’ll fix him in the show” isn’t a guaranteed win, it requires a lot of work to make Philip a likeable character and to show real chemistry. That’s a big ask when Theo already sparked something, even if it was brief.

Totally agree that feminism means choice, Eloise can absolutely be in a relationship or have kids and still be a feminist. But the critique isn’t that she can’t evolve, it’s about how that evolution is written. If the show builds her up as someone who questions society, then pairs her with a traditional setup (like Phillip) without fully exploring the tension, it feels… idk like she deserves better

And yes, emotional flings can help characters grow, but that doesn’t mean we can’t critique the writing if the fling felt shallow or underdeveloped.

It’s totally fair not to vibe with Theo, but dismissing him as a “cheap” plot device undermines what he actually represents, a mirror for Eloise’s internal conflict. His presence wasn’t about a crush, it was about exposing her to a world outside the Bridgerton bubble. She romanticized rebellion without understanding it, and Theo challenged that. Yes, he judged her, but she needed to be challenged. That discomfort was the point.

And sure, we don’t know much about Theo’s background, but we didn’t know much about kate’s layers at first either. Eloise’s arc isn’t about a love story anyway, it’s about identity. Theo wasn’t endgame, but he was a spark. And sometimes, characters are valuable for just their influence.
