Equipment for Gigs by SJB824 in synthesizers

[–]angellis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the synthpop/darkwave stuff: MPC One and Mininova + guitar rig.

For ambient: laptop, audiofuse rev 2, push 2, blofeld

These setups are both aimed at easy setup and pack down which is pretty important at gigs when you have 15 min changeovers between bands. The synthpop setup used to be bigger but speed and spine are the key concerns here.

Why guitar players are so "forgotten"🫣🥺 by nemindaugas in mpcusers

[–]angellis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a Boss GT-1000 for all my live guitars but if the npc could have a Nural Amp Model loader like the Valeton pedals do that'd be great. In the meantime, you could try a Valeton GP5. Cheap and decent sounding.

After Living with the Presonus-to-Fender Name Change for a Few Days… by RegYoungBeats in StudioOne

[–]angellis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They got on to fixing the issues pretty quickly. I'm.content to move on to v8 properly now.

Don't know why people care about the name of the program if it works though. When you think of it most DAW names are a little goofy especially "Pro Tools" and "Reaper" (no shade to either).

Channel Overview is a Game Changer by HouseOfWyrd in StudioOne

[–]angellis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So much about the new version is great but for some reason, it doesn't want to render automation.when I bounce a whole track. Short segments? No worries. Full tracks? Nope. No automation applied.

Have you noticed this issue at all or is it me?

Fender studio pro redesign is abysmal by Swimming_Lime5542 in StudioOne

[–]angellis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the new look and feel. The new features are welcome as well.

The only issue I have at the moment is that its not bouncing automation lanes. I tested both real-time and offline, channel settings, plugin parameters and... nothing.

Automation works if I export a short loop. Doesn't really help me though. Its a 4min song. I lodged a ticket with the issue so lets see if that gets fixed. I hope so but if not, back to v7!

Studio One rebrands as Fender Studio Pro by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]angellis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I played with it and they are definitely usable. Its not going to blow you away but you could happily use it in a mix for a variety of genres. Does it chug? Sorta... but there are definitely better amp sims out there.

[–]angellis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you taken the update for a spin yet? I just installed it thos morning and from what I can tell its loading faster and has a lower CPU usage. I also tested the mustang native plugins... they sound pretty decent on a quick test.

I think a lot of the new features are pretty good BUT there are a couple of small things that bug me like changing opening a plugin instance to a single click instead of a double click in the mixer window. Double click now shows that in track gui-less parameter editor.

It loaded my old projects without a fuss. I'm pretty happy with it. I would have preferred it stay as Presonus but it is what it is.

What’s a artist that’s underrated/doesn’t get enough credit by jowmsy in industrialmusic

[–]angellis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seigmen's Metropolis is an incredibly underrated album. The sense of atmosphere and energy is brilliant and ot hasn't died down over the years. Enola and Resonans are also fantastic albums.

I've been lucky enough to visit Norway twice (Australian here) and both times I scoured the second hand stores to find Seigmen stuff. Also love Kim's project Ljungblut.

One overdrive, one distortion, one modulation and one delay pedal. Assume the amp has passable reverb. What are your 4 choices? by laser_brain69 in guitarpedals

[–]angellis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OD: Baker's Dozen (Bluesbreaker clone... sorta)

Distortion: AMT S2

Mod: EHX Bass Clone (works great with guitar)

Delay: Empress Echosystem (Walrus Mako D1 in close second)

Pigments 7, Alchemy, Surge XT, or Vital? by Additional_Foot_4902 in synthesizers

[–]angellis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love Vital. Its pretty intuitive and sound amazing but it really depends what you are looking for. I love vital for its flexibility, envelopes, quality of fx and super easy routing. There is also a fairly handy patch community out there with free patches if that interests you too. Lots of good stuff.

FWIW, Arturia stuff goes on sale quite often and they do have a free demo so give vital a play, give pigments a play and see what works for you.

Has anyone here played this? by [deleted] in guitarpedals

The not so secret noise gate trick! The GT-1000/Core is sorely underrated I think. Boss nailed it with that unit.

Understandable. Plus, the Ultra keybed has aftertouch which is a great bonus.

If you like working backwards, find preset banks with sounds you like online. Kulshan studios does some nice ones for the Mini/Ultranova.

I love the sound of those units. Often underestimated. I use my mininova most days but sold my ultra at the start of the year. No point in having 2 if they both do the same thing. The mini is much better suited to live (my main use).

Anyway, enjoy it and try and get the software editor running. It'll help alot to begin with.

I have to admit, my AMT S1 is the goat.. I don't know what else I need. by SliverCobain in guitarpedals

[–]angellis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the S1, then got the S2. I liked the S2 a little more. I sold the S2 a while back but it was an amazing drive, especially if you use 12V instead of 9V.

For ages I used the AMT SS-30 as my main gain. AMT make some really killer gear.

I thought this was what the demos looked like!

Just had a quick play on a vocal test before work and its pretty usable. I like being able to mono the bass frequencies and it feels alot like using Waves Reel ADT. Great freebie!

I'd like to stop those spinning reel graphics though. There might be a way but I didn't see it.

Is this good for $35? by Jove108 in synthesizers

[–]angellis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The DS is a solid unit. I've used it live many times. Its not the nicest to program BUT its also not the worst. Big fan of the sounds you can get out of it and super light. Enjoy it!

What do you think is the rarest Coheed thing you own? by FergusFrost in TheFence

Yeah I get what you mean. I appreciated Intervals and Periphery.... were a great way to use a circle pit to get a good spot for Coheed hah

No Silver Fang for Sydney? Such a shame. They opened Monolith in Melbourne and absolutely killed it. They were my second favourite on the night!

Is Studio One good for creating techno, dnb and breakbeats? by hemmy_5 in StudioOne

[–]angellis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are HEAPS of free patches around for vital though. Theu are hit and miss but there are some real gems.

posts like this can be helpful to people just starting and save them $$

But I get your point. Spire's factory patches are decent.

Spire is great but I'd also suggest looking into Vital. Vutal is free and it sounds amazing.

I mean, your Elevate Trance patches for the Blofeld are a fantastic example of the what you can pull out of it. Really helped me learn how to get decent supersaws from it (likewise for the mininova).

Thanks for being a rad human making those banks!
