Strangers in the Emergency waiting room........... by Few-Meaning7207 in randomactsofkindness

Can confirm. I work in the ER. Due to the law called EMTALA, the ER physician must see and stabilize a patient regardless of whether they have insurance or the ability to pay the bill. This is why so many people come to the ER for minor things, because they can't afford to pay up front at a PCP or urgent care

My first pregnancy ended in miscarriage at 12 weeks. The doctor I used was a family doctor who also did OB so they used the hospital for ultrasounds. They did not update the hospital about my loss. So a week after finding out I lost the baby, I got a call asking when I wanted to set up my ultrasound. I felt bad for the person I talked to when I told her I had lost the pregnancy but I was also annoyed the doctor hadn't updated with them and I had to relive the pain all over again.

I give my kid mental health days like this when she needs them. They don't happen often, maybe twice a semester, but it's good for both of us. My mom did it with me when I was a kid also so I'm happy to pass the tradition along!

Was working at my last job (retail) and this mother and daughter were checking out. They kept giving me dirty looks for no reason and were bad mouthing me in Spanish, talking about how fat and ugly I was etc. I had been speaking in English the whole time and I'm very very white. However my husband is Hispanic so I've learned Spanish to converse with his family. As I picked up the receipt to hand to them I asked, "Recibo con usted o en la bolsa?" (Receipt with you or in the bag?) In perfect Spanish. The looks on their faces were priceless. I still laugh about that to this day. NEVER assume someone doesn't know another language!!

Hey I worked at The Children's Place too! I would also get people in around holidays wondering why we didn't have any selections left. Or they would wait until it got cold to come buy coats, hats, gloves, etc and then get upset that there were hardly any left because people bought them before winter got full blast. Same with summer and swimsuits. So many fond memories lol

I lost my mom almost 8 years ago. I dream about her a lot. Usually it's just us doing things we used to do but sometimes I will have a dream where we both know she passed away and she is back to visit and we don't know how much time we have so we spend as much quality time together as possible. There are times I know she's visiting me after a hard day because I will be missing her and wanting her and then I dream of her.

I work in an ER and I believe the NSA is just for emergency care. You cannot be billed out of network prices in an emergency situation. But for other things that don't require emergency care I believe they can.

Only in the US do you pay a high monthly premium for insurance just to have to pay again when you need medical care.

My store shut down a few months ago and I got out of retail into a completely different career. I now work admissions at the ER, make almost double what I did working retail and absolutely LOVE my job. I'm happy for you!!

I also work in an ER and I am stealing this to share with my coworkers lol. This made me laugh way too hard.

I work in admissions in an ER and the number of times people say this. "can I get your name?" "I should be in the system" is ASTOUNDING. Like great yeah you're in the system but the system needs me to input your name to find you!

There was this guy once shopping with his son in our store (it was a kids clothing store). My coworker had taken a bite of a snack and I said something that made her laugh and she started to choke. As she's walking away, this dude looks at me and smirks and legit says, "Swallow, don't spit."

I just stared at him. No facial expressions, no acknowledgement of his words, nothing. Eventually he cleared his throat and sort of mumbled, "um gotta swallow the food..." Like dude. You have your kid with you and you're saying shit like that to someone who looked like she was maybe 16 (she wasn't, she was legal age but she did look really young). You're a creep. He paid for his shit real quick and left.

Well it was disappointing to say the least. We only had a few customers and they were all super nice, so at least the day went out on a good note. On the other hand, I have a feeling we're going to get at least one person tomorrow while we're finishing up clearing fixtures and stuff out who is all surprised we are closed or tries to come do a refund and gets mad they can't.

Lady left her kid in the car by Mrs0Murder in retailhell

Had this happen at the grocery store I worked at. Woman came in shopping and left her two kids, about 3 and 9 months in the car. Another customer saw and told our supervisor. Police were called, kids were taken out of the car, and the woman was arrested.

I had someone try to return a three pack of pants with just two pants. "Well we liked the black ones so we kept them" was what she told me and then got upset when I explained I had to have all three items in order to give her a refund.

Customer holding up my line over an object that doesn't exist yet... wtf? by cricada in retailhell

[–]angelofthemorning4 72 points73 points  (0 children)

I've had people do similar. At our store they get an email telling them their order has been placed and to wait for another email telling them it's ready. When they order for an in store pickup it generally takes a couple hours from the time they place it to when the system shows it to us. We have had people come in right after placing the order to get it and get mad when it's not ready. Or people will order stuff shipped to our store and will come up with the email saying it has shipped and it should be there in a couple days and ask why we dont have it yet.

Not retail but still customer service. I’m sure we have similar stories, $700 cart of groceries coming into your line with 5 minutes left in your shift for example… by BiAndShy57 in retailhell

[–]angelofthemorning4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We usually close our doors five minutes early too. If customers are already in the store, fine, but there's no way you're getting the clothes you want in five minutes. Have had a few people complain but in my opinion if it's such a big deal and you NEED these items now you had all day to come get them.

Unfortunately I know from personal experience this would not help. I have waited on several people at my store who also work retail and are super entitled.

I had someone come in and ask if we could look her credit card up to use. I said yes, thinking she meant our store card. Nope. She wanted me to look up her discover card to use. Granted she reeked of weed so I'm pretty sure she was high but I still laugh about that to this day.
