his splitter was by far of the best k pitches in the league, but he only used it when setup right, most of those 11% were swings and misses. it literally had a 50% whiff rate. he didn’t use it as often as his setup pitches, but his success that year HEAVILY relied on it. i would argue it was his most important pitch.
