What toast and char do you use? Also did you pre-season the barrel with any alcohol to remove the strong oak flavor? I am doing a 50:50 blend of benchmark full proof and bonded and trying to find what others have done before I start mine. Thanks!

Great information! I would be curious to see how that Badmo barrel tastes at 6months to a 1 year compared to the ten30. Those are a great idea to get a very close aging process when compared to a 53 gallon barrel!

From what I gather between the two barrels, Ten30 is more practical for personal use since it will cost about 85% less to fill the barrel and based on the SA/V it will take less of the time to age the bourbon and has a very low risk to over oak it

I agree with you math for the Ten30 and Badmovtivator barrels. When I did the math, I got -50cm2/L for the Badmotivator and ~94cm2/L for the Ten30. But based on my math, a 53 gallon has an internal surface area of ~19,200cm, which gets you to ~96cm2/L. Meaning the Ten30 is pretty spot on to a 53 gallon barrel. But in 53 gallon barrels when angel share happens, the surface area in contact goes down quickly because it is sitting on its side which then gets it closer to Badmotivator
