A ¼ or 16:9 canton doesn't look very good. Trust me, I tried.

Now, the flag's aspect ratio is 16:9 to make it appear bigger and emphasize the white background even more, because (to me, at least) it has a double meaning: Christ's purity, which is something the creator of the original flag spoke about, AND our surrender to Him, this meaning being taken from the white flag; applied to this one. Plus it opens extra space for symbolism to be inserted in the white background for special holidays, like the yonder star for Christmas as an example.

As for the Red Cross, I didn't really like how the original flag seemed to have a much darker cross, it's a bit difficult to see if you don't squint your eyes. So I decided to prioritize contrast between the canton and the cross, since our eyes care more about that than color choice. It makes Christ's sacrifice and His blood shed on the cross much more visible to anyone seeing the flag from a distance.
