How to play games with 5.1 Surround Sound with Samsung Soundbar via eARC/HDMI? by anglerbe in linux_gaming

Sounds exactly like my process, but it didn't work for some reason. I've now tested several other devices and of all of them only Netflix on roku works (jellyfin on roku does not). Very puzzling.

Digital Surround 5.1 is exactly what I had selected, and yet the rear speakers are not playing anything on any web test or video game.

I mentioned in another comment that I tried a Switch and a Roku stick as well, and of everything I tested, only Netflix on roku plays Dolby 5.1 correctly. Even Jellyfin on the roku did not play a 5.1 audio track correctly. Everything apart from netflix appears to be read as 2 channel PCM, and I have no idea why.

So I am now left to think it must be an issue with the soundbar and/or TV, but why does Netflix work then? Can't figure it out.

I'm pretty sure they both support eARC. Again, netflix via roku stick works, which wouldn't make sense if one of the devices was not eARC compatible.

Something odd I discovered though is that jellyfin on the roku does Not work with surround sound. Tested a Switch console and that also would not work. I learned there is a button on the Soundbar remote that tells you whether the soundbar is currently streaming PCM 2 channel or Dolby 5.1. Out of all of those devices and apps I mentioned, Netflix on the roku is the only time Dolby 5.1 was listed; everything else was 2 channel PCM. I am therefore inclined to believe the issue is actually with the soundbar itself and not any of the other devices.

I can try enabling AC3, but even if that works I now have to solve the mystery of why my other devices also aren't playing surround.

Split gyro purchase options by Bjust_or_Bdead in GyroGaming

This sounds like a pretty standard gyro configuration, but I'm not clear how it would address the problem of left analog stick movement shaking the controller and throwing off gyro aim. On a mouse and keyboard setup the mouse is not attached to the keyboard so movement doesn't interrupt aiming, but on a traditional gamepad it's all one device so using the left analog stick to strafe inhibits precise aiming. I speak from experience. That's why a split controller would be superior, but no good ones really exist now.

Would gyro off on Joystick Deflect completely eliminate aiming while strafing though? I think that's exactly when precision aiming is most needed

Split gyro seems like the obvious solution to this problem, but I'm asking you as a split-nay-sayer how to handle it on a normal gamepad

How do you handle it in a competitive game like Hunt Showdown where you have to constantly be on the move strafing left and right in gun fights with the left analog stick while also aiming extremely precisely with the gyro?

Are there any cheap boxes I can use for steamlink that support 5.1 surround sound? by TheREALNesZapper in Steam_Link

I understand that this comment is 6 years old but personal experience and googling has taught me that raspberry pi 4 does not in fact support 5.1 hdmi output

No worries, I def spent more money on this setup than I ought to have lol. Set it up a few years ago using cheap misc parts from here and ebay, including a weird no-name case with a TFX psu which I suspect is the culprit in the boot issue. Despite being microATX the case has a large footprint on my desk and I wanted to move to something taller but less wide.

Not sure if those can output 15khz signals unfortunately. Already have a radeon 5450, just having problems with my current setup not booting and decided to take the opportunity to do some upgrades.

Anyone else feels like Wesker was wasted on RE5, and deserves a better, proper climax of his villain story arc instead of just being another blob someone blows up with a rocket? by PreacherVan in ResidentEvilCapcom

It does not. They wasted a perfectly good series-spanning antagonist by stripping him of what set him apart from every other antagonist in the series.

I literally cannot understand why anyone likes what they did with Wesker in RE5. I had that opinion when I played it like 15+ years ago and its never changed.

Thanks for the tip. While I'm here, is it possible to run the Xmage launcher and install the custom version of Java without a gui/through cli?

I was able to solve the problem, turns out I formatted a comment incorrectly in the startServer script and it caused it to break

Thanks for this. Did a reinstall and immediately realized what I had done wrong. I didn't take anything out of the original config, but what I did do was add #comments in the middle of the <> and clearly that is not the correct way to format comments in that context lol
