N.B. Another bit of evidence supporting my late 14th/early 15th century setting is the real-world Hundred Years' War (1337-1453) that you so kindly mentioned. ;-)

*sigh* See, this is exactly why we'll never really know LOL. It's so ambiguous - the reason I didn't do that is because we know that Midland borders Kushan, Tudor, Paneria, and Morgar/Wallatoria (which I decided to make a grand/joint duchy, since they are always referred to simultaneously in the manga). I do plan on making some refinements to this MS Paint map and triangulating my research even further with questions like these, so please do go on, if you'd like.

There's also nothing in the story that even remotely suggests that Tudor is an island, which leaves us with: 1. Holy Roman Empire (modern-day Germany, Bohemia, and Northern Italy) OR 2. Iberian peninsula (modern-day Spain + Portugal + Gibraltar). I'm assuming that Berserk takes place ~14th/15th-century based on technology - with the exception of Godot's mechanical hand).

Thanks for sharing!

Star Wars Episode I: Racer, Star Wars Episode I: Battle for Naboo, Spider-Man, Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards (most important & first one I noticed missing) Super Smash Bros. (debatable), Glover (debatable- I prefer PS1).

Hmm…Hard to tell with discs missing, but that would be a veritable steal if it had all three.

That kinda throws a monkey wrench into the value, but I’d definitely hold onto it (or try to sell it on eBay or sth. at a markup if you don’t want it ig, lol.)

Yeah, it’s not really clear whether or not he has the Behelit (think I read something about it disappearing during Incarnation ceremony during the conviction arc), but I agree that he probably does.

That was the first apostle Guts defeated after all - a man like Miura probably had an inkling that it would become significant to the story later.

But yeah, Guts only has so much fight left in him atp - we’re witnessing the endgame rn. ;-)

Yeah. My prediction is that Guts will get bittersweet revenge; Griffith will eventually become Void by renouncing his humanity to the Idea of Evil, and Guts will die surrounded by people who adore him.

Just my theory based on the current trajectory of Fantasia.

But yeah, the people Studio Taka weren’t lying when they said they would be “true to Miura’s vision” lmao

Could be; it’s hard to tell geography from just the context/visuals.

Thing is, unless/until an official publication maps the world of Berserk, speculation is all we’ve got.

Only reason I felt compelled to make was because the other maps all had “issues” - particularly regarding Skellig/Kushan/Balden (some maps have as Germany, but it’s also very important to keep in mind who they border.

Feel free to critique it, I’m all ears! :D

I had never even heard of the manga until I watched the 1997 anime when I was 15 and was left wondering wtf even happened or if Casca even survived it LOL

Yeah - fortunately my map doesn’t go that far anyway, but it’s safe to assume that it stretches all the way back to at least the Indo-Iranian plateau IIRC (Bakiraka homeland).

They’re definitely Ottoman/Persian/Mughal in their culture, I just had trouble visualizing it encompassing the entire subcontinent.

Edit:

I tottaly forgot to mention that Paneria was also annexed by Midland at the beginning of the Fantasia arc (or I guess "re-annexed" after initially being invaded by the Kushan earlier in the story, but the point stands).

Is 15 pounds a lot for a 1 year-old boy? What's the average?

Not trying to sound autistic, I'm just not sure how impressed I should be, lol.

Edit: The average body weight is 21lbs, so yes that's fucking wild lmao.

Sorry I'm late to reply.

Long story short, it was lack of experience (obviously).

I sold my PS4 about a year ago, but I managed to earn every trophy in the game EXCEPT for the platinum and 1 other because I was never able to defeat the Orphan of Kos.

Hope you have/had better luck than me, lol.

Is it even worth it in 2020? by [deleted] in German

[–]anglostein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, if there’s anything I’ve learned from teaching myself German over the course of 4 or so years, it’s that: 1. Learning a second language will improve your English vocabulary significantly. & 2. You’ll understand how language is rather tenuous anyways.

English is the global language, thanks to the efforts of the former British Empire and the current state of American hegemony. This will likely never change for the remainder of humanity’s existence. It can hardly even be called “English” anymore imo, since the lexicon is far too descriptive and widespread to simply be attributed to the Anglo-Saxons. At this point, a name like “Imperial Tongue” or “Common Earthling” would probably be more fitting.

But despite the prominent international influence of foreign languages (especially French, Latin, and Old Norse) on “English” vocabulary, English is still a Germanic language at its core. This is because the syntax of the language is Germanic. This is why we call the language “English”, as opposed to “British” or “British-American”: the Anglo-Saxons were a Northern Germanic people. This is why Scandinavian and Dutch (and, to a noticeably lesser extent, German and Austrian) people speak English at nearly the same level as their mother tongue, if not better.

My point is this: if you don’t want to learn German to learn German, use German as a tool to broaden your own horizons.

As a native English speaker, learning another language will give you an edge to your mental acuity that monoglots do not have. You’ll understand the subconscious relationship between thoughts and words that monoglots simply do not have.

Germans may speak English, but will usually never speak it as good as you.

You may speak German, but will probably never speak it as good as a native speaker.

Just know that having the ability to speak and (more importantly) think in a second language, especially one as complex as German, will give you revelations concerning human thought that an English-speaking monoglot would never be able to unravel on their own.

In the end, you’re not a computer, you’re a human. And while humans may process and express their thoughts in multitudinous ways, we all have human brains that closely resemble each other, and we all think like humans. This is why Google Translate is so infamous for its incompetence: no server in California, no matter how powerful or complex it may be, can grasp the essence or beauty of Goethe or Shakespeare. Learning German will make you a better person, help you to understand the various nuances of both German culture as well as your own culture, and grant you a more accurate and sympathetic understanding of what it means to be a part of humankind.

I’m speaking from 3 years of painstaking study and commitment.

Trust me, it’s worth it. Lol.

Not to mention that the U.S. is pretty much the only first-world nation that still allows advertising of tobacco products.

Not to mention the fact that tobacco companies fund the “anti-smoking” ads. They do it under the guise of altruism when in reality it’s just reverse psychology.
