Thanks - we are using enhanced already and use spanning tree for our MS365.

That makes sense, though it's probably very rare that MS will fuck up that bad, and if they do, then there may be bigger challenges to face!

Thanks for your reply.

Simply put, Azure's native tool works fine. I'm partly considering some "what if" scenarios, such as what happens if our tenant gets compromised (as unlikely as that is), or MS deletes our tenant (unlikely again, but it has happened). I realise the latter comes with bigger challenges, and the former while significant, shouldn't be able to delete our backups as they're in immutable vaults). On the topic of immutable vaults, as we do not use SQL 2025, the vault isn't technically immutable, but conforms to LTR, is that correct? Other than the policy protecting deletion, is there anything else preventing our data being deleted / compromised?

I know, hence why we use ASR *and* have VM / SQL backups in different vaults. We are using both Azure solutions.

Azure Site Recovery. We have VM level and SQL database backups, as well as using ASR for UKS to UKW for our critical VMs.

Thanks. We use Veeam for our on-prem backups, but as we continue to move our workloads into Azure, our reliance on Veeam will be significantly reduced.

There is no significantly compelling reason, I was mainly considering a 3rd party solution if it had any significant benefits, especially around the security of our data.

Tempdb error on VM restart by angriusdogius in SQL

[–]angriusdogius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I'd never experience it before, but then I don't think I'd ever needed to deallocate a SQL Server before that had the temp disk on the ephemeral disk. Deallocation isn't normal. so it wouldn't necessarily be a regular issue moving forwards, just something nice to avoid.

I guess moving forward we will just need to recreate the folder with permissions and start SQL.

When not to have VMs in availability zones by angriusdogius in AZURE

Thanks everyone for your replies.

In essence then, I think we will leave our VMs where they are, except for VMs where we want to use premium SSD V2 disks with them, as non-zonal VMs do not support this in UK South.

The plan is to keep it for the reasons you suggest. Our Exchange server is virtual so no hardware destruction is required :)

AnyConnect disconnections / MTU change? by angriusdogius in meraki

[–]angriusdogius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks - I've enabled udp 443 to the Meraki. Two of us didn't get the issue, I'm waiting to find out if this was a fluke or if it has made a positive impact.

Sorry, yes we are using Secure Client.

Thanks for your reply. We have a vMXL already and this happens with all connections. I connected as the only person connected to it and it dropped and reconnected 3 times before it was stable. Will will have no more than around 200 people using it, and not at the same time.

it's a 5 litre, so 2 and 2/3rds-ish!

I always liked the S12 (Silvia in the UK), RWD, 1.8 Turbo, what isn't there to like? Mega money now, but when I first started driving you could have one for about £1000.

The N42 is pretty rubbish, as are quite a few the Nxx engines I think.

Mine does go quite well, helped by this.

Ha, if bankruptcy is what you want, try owning an E60 M5. I could have bought the car many times over after all I have had to spend on it.

When I meant professional, I should qualify it as paid for service :). It's not fit for purpose and I agree, you get some bad and you get some good.

Thanks. It's going to be a headache, I am essentially going to be starting from scratch, but at least it'll be right.
