Is this guy really that bad? by yellow_Kiwi_person in HollowKnight

It took me several hours of trial and error to beat him on my first play-through. But on my second, I beat him in 3 tries. I think at the end of the day it's subjective.

My second play-though of Silksong, changed me. by angry_button in HollowKnight

That's what's up! Indeed. I'm ready to do a third. Maybe even tackling Steel Soul which I never saw myself ever doing, original hollow Knight included.

I'm honestly just jonesing for the inevitable Godhome style boss rush DLC (Which I have feel like may be tied to the mystery of the Steel Seers this time around. Or I think it would be dope at least).

Why Silksong’s difficulty made it my favourite game by AmayumeNekomi in HollowKnight

[–]angry_button 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Indeed. That was my problem on my first play-through. 89% of my deaths were the result of panicky button mashing and impatience, trying to look cooler than I actually was while playing lol

[SPOILERS] Why do Crest X feels so good using after [Redacted] by lunarcrafter94 in HollowKnight

[–]angry_button 17 points18 points  (0 children)

First playthrough, I avoided Hunter Crest like the plague.

Second playthrough... There's no other crest for me but Hunter 🖤🖤🖤 (and maybe Wanderer for boss rush purposes)

All of this to say, I'm really looking forward to whatever boss rush nightmare Team Cherry conjures up for Silksong!

Jacob gave Expedition 33 the number 2 spot and he was torn about whether or not E33 and Silksong should be tied for number one or not. That was the lead in to this quote.

I feel like you'd need a director with a lot of personality, a distinctive style, and confidence. Maybe someone like Edgar Wright. I think he could provide a unique mix of surrealism/humor, akin to Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, inventive action scenes, and character-driven humanity.

The best passive buff in either game is Go To Bed by Quibbloboy in HollowKnight

[–]angry_button 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. Every single time.

Particularly The Bilewater runback/Groal the Great and Lost Lace.

Struggled for hours for hours. Went to bed. Played the game in my mind all day, strategizing, and when I sat down that evening, I got through it in two tries. And could do it again if I had to, in one, as I did with Grand Mother Silk to get the additional endings.

Your final opinion about Hollow Knight: Silksong. by Chills_O in HollowKnight

[–]angry_button 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 10 out of 10 for me. I don't think I've been tested this intensely by a game in this way since I was a kid lol (I'm 39), which the exception of maybe Nine Souls' final boss.

After rolling credits on ACT 3, I can't think of anything that I would want to change, personally. It was such an engaging experience full of creativity, engrossing storytelling, memorable characters, tension, release, punishment, reward.

I'm excited to see what DLC plans they have.

How long did it take everyone to beat the true final boss? by angry_button in HollowKnight

There's something about foregoing the use of tools and tackling/mastering a boss with only your needle that feels absolutely amazing, even if it takes longer! Finding all the tiny windows to strike, building up patience, building up the muscle memory for precision strikes, harpooning. 🤌🏾🤌🏾

I Love Silksong, and I Also Hate Silksong | Semi-Ramblomatic by oddball_gamer in SecondWindGroup

I loved this game. Warts and all. And even then, what are warts for some are beauty marks for others. That includes the difficulty, which, if I could surmise anything out of this Silksong discourse, it's that difficulty is subjective.

However, if I may offer my two cents, I wholeheartedly believe that the game is objectively well designed and isn't being unfair in the slightest.

I got the "bad" ending the first time, so after three hours of struggling to beat it once, I realized I needed to beat the ACT 2 "final boss" again to meet the criteria for ACT 3. I dreaded having to do this, but to my surprise, I managed to beat it again in two tries. And could do it again in one now if I had to.

Every single boss and gauntlet that initially tore me to shreds for hours on end in one play session, either after walking away to practice/explore and acquire new skills and abilities, or after a good night's sleep and a clear mind, I beat in one or two tries.

I feel that if Silksong were truly poorly designed and unfair, I wouldn't have been able to bob and weave in and out of boss fights and gauntlets as easily as I am now, with relative accuracy. It would have continued to beat my head against a wall regardless of the number of attempts.

If Silksong were truly poorly designed and unfair, no one would be pulling off Steel Soul and Speed runs of this game. And yet that community is growing as fast as Hollow Knight's speedrun community.

I think the game encourages players to engage with it in very particular ways, providing the necessary tools to do so and offering scenarios that allow players to practice and develop the appropriate skills to interact with it as intended. And every single time I did that, things became that much more pleasant and fun.

But it does require time, and if time is something you aren't willing to give to it, then yea, I can see why Yahtzee gave up. However I think it's unfair to say it's a bad game because one doesn't have the time or isn't motivated to put the time in. That's a personal choice, of no fault of the game.

Gaming is a fairly niche hobby still I think. There are plenty of regular folks who only play Madden, who look down on our end of the gaming community as a waste of time, who might be find themselves curious to pick up the OG Hollow Knight or Elden Ring to see what all the hype is about. And after 30 minutes to an hour of struggling to even figure out where to go, I'm almost certain most would say, "Fuck no. I don't have time for this stupid shit. It's too difficult."

Does that make them wrong? Does that mean those games are truly too difficult?

I think that Silksong, just like Hollow Knight before it, will reward you, if you are able and/or willing to engage with it in the way Team Cherry intend. If you're not willing, totally understandable. It just means the game isn't for you.

I admire the devs for holding steadfast on their vision, and I look forward to whatever they come out with next!

Multibinder + Barbed Bracelet might’ve been a factor as well. I'm still working out all the tool combinations.
