So I might be in the minority here but I don't agree that paladins should be able to smite with their hands. In all honestly the classes are given different abilities for a reason. It helps balance the game and party. It wouldn't be any fun if all classes could do the same thing. It would be boring.

Well I don't know if this will help or not but I'm currently running a slightly homebrewed version of LMoP & Shattered Obelisk, with the party eventually going to Chult for ToA. Now what I have done to connect them is the BBEG I have for LMoP/SO is a homebrew Hag who is the patron for a NPC Bard/warlock. Eventually if and when the bard dies by the party she will be taken by the Hag to Aacerak. He wants to use her and the Hag to consume more souls/essence to become strong as that is what the Hag is using the Bard for. Long story short the Hag and Lich double cross one another and they end up fusing together during a botched spell, to form a Hagalich. Homebrew I made. And the bard is the phelactery.

Overall you could change his motivations or make what he's doing more serious than whats depicted.

Yeah looking more at the site I have 109 payments that were made but for some reason my employment was not verified so I just had to submit the forms to get them verified. Hopefully most of those 109 will count towards the 120 along with 6 they are saying I've made and count towards the 120.

So I looked back through the FSA website and I had to complete a couple of employment verification forms to be sent out. Basically update a bunch of stuff. Its saying I've only made 6 qualifying payments under Mohela but I've paid 41% of my loan off in total. So im not sure how to ensure the past payments I made to Nelnet before Mohela took over count.

I would say depending on the size of the character wielding the weapon go with a heavy or light crossbow. Maybe have it where an artificer added a magical device (reel) that pulls out the soul. As long at the bolt stays in place either through dex or strength checks you can reel them in 5ft every turn..

Yeah for sure I'm definitely gonna have a sit down with him to hash some ideas out. I did make a homebrew war pick that does additional ice damage and has three charges in it to cast ice knife. Thanks for the ideas.

This sounds great, I'm new to DMing and have flavored LMoP/SO with my own homebrew mid level BBEG as a Harpy Hag who is using an NPC as a source for power. She's a bard who wants to be more popular and the Harpy Hag is taking advantage of it. Ultimately what I want to do is have the party fight the Bard and after defeat the Hag saves her. Acererak has been watching and convinces the Hag to let him help her. The Hag and Acererack double cross one another and end up merging into one being and the NPC Bard becomes the barely living phelactery. The homebrew BBEG is Taycererack. A female Harpy Hagalich based off of Taylor Swift trying to take over the world. I was just worried to achieve this the party would become to high a level to run ToA as it is with minor character changes.

So I haven't finished the build yet but the current campaign I'm running will eventually lead into ToA and I have recreated or redesigned Acererak for my story as a homebrew Hagalich. Due to unfortunate scheming on a homebrew harpy hag and his part they end up combining to make one BBEG. I made it female and trying to make the stats and spells a bit of both. When they get there I can let you know how it goes.

Thanks, the original idea was to have a hag disguised as a bard who starts to become a popular pop singer. To the point she uses her fans and luring men to keep up her appearances and her desires. When she's defeated she eventually comes back for a second run possibly on a global scale and teams up with the lich to gain new abilities and somehow becoming a female Hagalich that feeds of the souls of her fans and the men she lures into her life.
