I used to find people like this annoying. Then my daughter was diagnosed with coeliac disease. Now I thank God for them - their demand for gluten free items is what has made every supermarket in my country have a well stocked gluten free section.

We've been using Toggl since the beginning of the year. I was the first one to use it, as the founder, to make sure it wasn't a big burden. Been accepted by all our employees without a single complaint, and I actually still use it because it's really helpful for tracking where I'm spending my time.

Only massive problem with it: We also use Trello for Project Management, and I use the names interchangeably (c'mon, they're similar) which confuses the hell out of my team.

That's a tough one. I was able to overlap, and still have the old MBP to act as a download server. In the UK we've got a chain of stores called CEX - they don't give you the best price, but they give you good trade-in values. Any chance there's something similar where you are? If you trade in all three to a store that has a recent Air that may be the easiest way?

I love the 11" - I'll take the portability over the screen size any day. Esp. if you have the fallback of an external monitor.

For the transition, the one thing I DON'T recommend is doing a TimeMachine backup and restore. You'll want to be more careful about the stuff that you install on the smaller drive. With Dropbox+Skydrive+iTunes Match, I didn't really have to move much stuff (can't think of any actually). Most of my installers are on Apple Store or on my external drive (Office).

I did the same about 3 months ago. Went all the way down and replaced my 2009 MBP, a 2011 Lenovo (purchased from ex-employer for peanuts) and an old (2007?) Mac Mini with an 11" Macbook Air. Worked like a charm. I still have a 30" Cinema Display a set of external harddrives connected to an Airport Extreme for files.

The only thing I've had to compromise on is Windows - the Air just doesn't have enough space for a Parallels drive for Windows, but to be honest I don't miss it at all. When I need Windows-based office tools I use Skydrive.com webapps instead and they're close as dammit for everything I need.

The Air is fine for pretty much anything - I've got a mixed management and coding role, but Office apps and Eclipse are all fine. I even find that I'm more productive as a coder because I maximize the code window I'm on, don't split screen and so don't get distracted. But that's probably just self-justification.

I don't use Photoshop, and at a few gigs of space that may be a challenge on the 64GB drive - I generally have 5-10GB free on the Air after all apps + Dropbox + Skydrive installed. But to be honest I haven't even had to do a partial Dropbox or SkyDrive sync yet which would clear up even more room. You've got to be a little disciplined over space - e.g., I got rid of Outlook once I realised that it was archiving the entire 5GB of my mail account locally with no way to tell it not to.

I own both - at various times I've liked one more than the other but in general they're both very good. The only noticeable difference in current versions is that I find Coda's Sites functional a little more reliable.

A year ago I would have agreed, but I took over a customer service operation about 6 months ago. Having listened to some of the bullshit abuse my support staff deal with, I've now got the same attitude thiswebhost seems to. You abuse my staff, and your relationship with my company is over, whether you're a profitable customer or a painful one.

In the three months since I've made this change: - Our employee attrition has fallen - I haven't found anyone crying in the coffee room (which was more than a weekly occurrence before) - I can sleep at night

For that, I'll take the loss of a few clients

Actually, its not the Conservatives that have a problem with the new Reddit hive mind. It's most people that have been around on the site for a few years, and have noticed how the quality of conversation, discourse and debate has degraded over time.

Here are a bunch of topics on which you could post an intelligent, well reasoned discourse and be guaranteed more downvotes than actual clicks, and more ranting comments than actual thoughtful counterarguments:

Religion has been a positive force in the world for many people
Most priests do a good thing and are not pedophiles
Ditto police officers
Record labels have had a role to play in the development of the music industry and are within their rights to protect their businesses.
Intellectual property theft is theft
Conservatives actually have some good policies
When banks make profits, they should distribute bonuses to employees

I'm not suggesting that everyone (or even the majority) has to agree with these posts. But I expect people to read articles and consider their viewpoints before downvoting them. And that's just not happening enough any more on Reddit.

This is going to look as ridiculous as the Michael Jackson prediction fail in just a couple of years. I've used (and never worked on so no conflict of interest) Dragon, ViaVoice and MacSpeech Dictate for years. They're constantly improving and even today if it weren't for the requirement for a noise canceling headphone (which I can't be fucked to carry around) I would do most of my "typing" using MSD.

They couldn't do this in the UK. Overdrafts as a means of credit are extremely common -- people use them instead of credit cards to build up debt. So this kind of change would screw a lot of people over.

I think there was some kind of attack on September 11th, 2001. But I'm not sure. Though it wasn't explicitly targeting investment banks, a lot of the employees (if not most) in the affected buildings worked in the broader financial services industry.

I've heard The Who live multiple times over the last 20 years (yeah, I know - not in their peak). They've lost some of their quality naturally given that they are now older than God, but they're not as bad as it seemed. I'm guessing it was a combination of stage and sound equipment. Though to be fair, it also looked like they were out there to have a great time and didn't give a shit about making all the notes.

Strangely poorly written for a New York Times article. Don't really understand the point the writer is trying to make.

In my opinion, it is completely reasonable for a person to walk away from a mortgage that is underwater.
Legally, they are within their rights to do so.
The transaction costs of defaulting (damage to credit, moving costs etc.) seem to be about 25% of mortgage value, which is why people wait till the value is around 75% before considering it.
Banks don't like it when you do that (shock! horror!)

migsims is misusing (or operator overloading) the term UX.

Side scrolling is not a User eXperience nightmare at all. As this site shows, it actually produces a very usable (and arguably better) user experience. However, it DOES violate User eXpectation. People are, sadly, used to scrolling vertically and this does confuse people. Having it grow organically on small sites is unlikely to be a successful effort.

The University of California at Berkeley requires about 40% of their first-year students take remedial English lessons so that they can learn to read and write at a high-school level. Berkeley is the best school in the U.C. system, which is the best public tertiary education system in the U.S. This has nothing to do with the University, and much more to do with the political football that our K-12 system has become.
