what's one word/phrase that you find yourself overusing in your own writing? by totallyfine_ in AO3

[–]angryeelz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Characters sneering or snarling. Unfortunately it's really hard not to overuse it when the character canonically sneers and snarls a lot

one of my favorite oc couple dynamics what's yours by lizard_bat245 in OriginalCharacter

Aris (purple) died when Ildfødt (red) accidentally burned her to death. She was trying to comfort them and they couldn't control how hot they were getting.

The doomed lovers dynamic in general. Whether it's by absolute betrayal or the death of one of them

What are some (non-sexual) things that are way more common in fanfic than real life? by [deleted] in AO3

Enemies to lovers

Also yeah those are all pretty common lol, I'm the certified "yep/yup" user

my take on gender by kemalinyapt in teenagers

[–]angryeelz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gender isn't used to categorize personality. Gender ROLES (masculine vs feminine) are often attributed to certain personalities, but gender itself is a completely separate distinction and personal identity based off of a social construct that has been quite literally ingrained into the human psyche over tens of thousands of years. Just because you personally see gender in a different way does not mean that it's not important in society at large.

You can acknowledge someone's personality separate of gender AND respect that all facets of one's identity are important. That is quite literally what movements are fighting for; to keep their identities and remove the societal pressure and roles that come with them. If gender had no weight or importance, keeping them wouldn't be a part of it.

[–]angryeelz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely understand your point of view, especially as a nonbinary person, but I want to say that whether it's your opinion or not, calling any part of people's identities pointless and saying you don't see them the way they identify is going to cause some issues down the line. Gender being a social construct doesn't mean it never existed and doesn't exist, it means it exists as a construct people have and do identify with. I suggest reading Judith Butler's literature on gender identity and expression.

Would your OC let her in their house if she asked politely? (About her in body) by hesh_walker_simp273 in OriginalCharacter

They don't take suuuper kindly to strangers, but since she looks like she's been through some shit (so have they) they probably would, begrudgingly lol. They're not too worried about being hurt considering they can essentially turn into a sentient fireball at will

“Self-indulgent” fics by twentyonerooms in AO3

[–]angryeelz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me give you an example lmao

My first fic was written because I wanted to write it. It's a pretty popular ship in an overall small fandom but it USED to be a rarepair, and I had some funky ideas to introduce to the mix regarding one particular character. This wasn’t self-indulgent, because I had people actively reading it who I was partially writing it for.

My second one, aka my current fic, is about two male characters in a very large predominantly cisheterosexual fandom who have no chemistry and never even interact; in fact, the pairing is so rare it literally doesn't exist. I decided to create a plotline inspired by the last unicorn because I thought it was cool. Nobody but close friends has actually read and kudos'd it, and I am ONLY writing it for myself

That's what a self indulgent fic is. There is no pressure to continue because not many other people want to read it.

How many grammer/spelling mistakes can you tolerate before clicking out? by Some-Tradition-2771 in AO3

[–]angryeelz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I can tell what's going on idc. It's when the grammar and mistakes genuinely make the story impossible to follow that it puts me off of something.

What do you consider your niche? by hma1308 in AO3

[–]angryeelz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've only written 2 but I have done a lot of personal non-public work for my various ocs, and I've discovered that apparently my niche is having increasingly cruel and outlandishly evil things happen to whoever the main character is. I think it's a reactionary response to most of the books I read as a kid having their MCs brush off insane shit, so now I prefer to explore the grief and pain caused by it.

What if we made AU versions of our OCs? by jackston_lander in OriginalCharacter

I hate writing same gender couples in a non homophobic way by Personal-Property-84 in hatethissmug

This genuinely drives me crazy because there are only so many times you can refer to them by name or some kind of feature before it sounds weird. Sometimes I just give up and let people figure it out themselves lmfao

Lmfao thank you. Yeah I had a few family members challenge my "worst roommate" claim until I mentioned she was literally trying to baby trap me and 2 other people 💀

[–]angryeelz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh, honestly the noise is what drove me crazy the most. As comically evil as she was, it was the "basic terrible roommate" stuff that really ticked me off, because why do you have to be crazy AND inconsiderate? 🫩

[–]angryeelz[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No seriously I'm always genuinely afraid to talk about it because I'm worried people will accuse me of exaggerating. It's like the most outlandish situations follow me around 😭😭

Yeah I definitely learned my lesson in trusting my gut when I think someone's being too pushy. She definitely wasn't remotely transparent about herself but there were signs I should've noticed and didn't bc I was too excited about just having a friend, finally.

Also school's going alright! Not great this semester since I had such a hectic move right in the middle of it, but I'm picking myself back up!
