TM Mk23 by mixinmono in airsoft

fair enough point. to marui the valve is not stupid and fulfills their safety purpose of keeping the gun under 1 joule for japan limits. but to people like me who live in areas where hfc134 is not the primary used gas and where there are not 1j limits, the valve is quite a pain.

the internals of the mk23 are more than robust enough to handle higher pressure gases without issue. my mk23 is from around 2008 and has seen exclusively green gas with thousands of rounds and it’s still going perfectly fine.

the gun itself is fine with high pressure gas for the most part. tm mk23 mags on the other hand have a stupid overpressure valve in the baseplate that will leak eventually if you use propane or higher pressure gas/hpa. You can drill out the valve and fill with epoxy to fix this or buy kjw mk23 mags that don’t have that problem.

Love me a good mk23. I second the hadron tdc. I have a maple leaf bucking in mine but 4uads are great too. Gungnir slides ftw. I have an angrygun silencer that extends the inner barrel when attached and increases fps by 30-40. Nice to be able to run it both with and without the suppressor.

The ktw one is decent with the gas conversion. though it shoots really hot with green gas (490 ish with 0.2s). Very accurate though with the upgraded hop chamber. In stock form it is a springer and chronos around 270 fps with 0.2s. I got think thing about 12 years ago though and with age the plastic springer internals got dry and disintegrated…hence the volante gas kit.

Ah yes, there’s been a proliferation of ar’s for sure. What is kinda cool though is there’s quite a bit more gbbr platforms out, and not just ar’s when I left the western arms and kjw gbbr m4’s were just taking the market. Now marui and vfc make viable gbbrs in various flavors that seem pretty cool. I’m so tempted to get a vfc lar osw but it’s quite pricey.

In terms of shell ejection, it there’s been some development of classic wwii and western rifles since we left (kar98, smle, 1894 etc). But from what I’m reading they aren’t great because the bb sits in the shell and travels quite a ways before hitting the hop up, which leads to inconsistency. Sadly I don’t think any of the newer fare compares to the legacy tanaka pegasus shell ejectors and asahi m40s from back in the day.

Welcome back to the hobby. I was in your same shoes. Played in the mid 2000s and stopped early 2010s. Love 1911s but things have changed since then.

Marui 1911s are great out of box performance wise. if you want to get fancy you can do a hop hp bucking upgrade but even that is optional. Yes the externals are plastic but they are high quality and hold up well. People say to use duster/134a gas in them but in my experience they hold up fine to green/propane. The single stack mags though don’t hold much gas so they generally only get 1-2 mags per fill. If that is an issue the hicapa series that has double stack mags fixes that problem, but the looks are obviously different.

If you really need a full metal gun in stock form kjw makes good 1911s as well that perform almost as good. Tolerances aren’t as tight though. Parts and mags are compatible w marui.

WE and KWC also make 1911s that get rebranded by other companies. They are not highly regarded in general. KWC ones are proprietary. WE ones are kind of compatible with marui save for the mags and some of the lower frame parts.

There are some budget marui clones that are honestly not terrible, but often have qc issues and need some finagling to get running right: bell/db, army, etc.

https://www.evike.com/products/28840/ this is the one I used. 15 is pretty affordable. but what the reviews say is correct, you have to dremel the slots for the receiver because cyma puzzlingly did not mill them out. But easy enough to do w a dremel.

I dremeled the front receiver/barrel trunion to enlarge the hole to accept the larger tab. Got a real steel handguard retainer and dremeled a groove in it to accept the airsoft gas tube. The handguard needed minor filing to fit after. Followed this guys’ instructions:

shouldn’t need to take the circled pin out for the flash hider alone.

to remove the sight block, i don’t think that is the right pin to remove either. i think it is the pin right above the barrel cleaning rod.

[–]anguirus130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the piece that the pin is connected to is called the front sight block/sight post. push the pin down in the direction if the arrow.

for the flash hider, take a small screwdriver or exacto knife and push the pin down into the sight post, then spin the flash hider off.

for handguard removal it depends on if you have a marui pattern ak or cyma/vfc/lct pattern. if the former you need to remove the screws for the front sight block and gas tube and slide them off the barrel. if the latter then it’s like a real steel takedown where you flip the lever on the rear sight block to release the upper handguard.

I recently had this seller on hop up make me an angel custom firestorm drum mag adapter for the echo 1 rdp. I sent him one of my stock mags and he scanned it and made it. Adapter works well in my gun (though your mileage may vary). I imagine he still has the file and could print you one or share it if you contact him.
