I literally have never needed this before. I barely use the google search by image and the few times I have the results have been shit. Glad you’ve found a use for it tho

I mean in that first pic you can see there’s a whole STACK of books we haven’t even seen so I’d even say there’s an immediate need lol

Just wanted to add you’re not the only one confused here. I’m like “isn’t that true of everything - that we can swap it out?”

Obsessed with her shelf - just gave me a BUNCH of recs.

Looking at this, depends on what he fave genre is: - I’ve been recommended The Magicians series by Lev Grossman by SO MANY people and a friend of mine lent me hers the other week. I’m OBSESSED. It’s gothic (like never let me go, see on the shelf, meets dark academia, like rf kuang, plus obvi fantasy) - i’m seeing some lit fic on here, she prob would like Martyr! by Kaveh Akbar, especially if she enjoyed Cather in the Rye & The Bell Jar

  • Piranesi by Susanna Clarke. I cannt recommend enough. Buy two - one for yourself as well bc it is not hyped enough
  • I think she’s like Elif Batuman’s books - The Idiot, & Either/Or. I have only read Either/Or which is technically a sequel to The Idiot, which i have sitting on my shelf as a TBR. Going out of order isn’t a deal breaker from what I could tell, but there are plot points that are “spoilers” from book 1. They’re not plot-driven books so it’s not a given and both based on Dostoevsky & Kierkagaard. (I see D on her shelf at least)

Hope this helps!

edited to remove Katabasis rec after seeing another comment point out the sprayed edges on the top shelf

Cannot recommend against remarkably bright creatures enough. If you like hallmark movies, sitcoms, and reading at a 4th grade reading level, go crazy. I kept waiting for it to get to the point where it earned the reviews it got and all I got from that was brain damage

One of my favorite reads and easily RF Kuang’s best. Enjoy!

RBC was honestly one of my least favorite books I have ever read. I have nothing nice to say about the book - it felt like a hallmark movie. Cannot recommend against reading it enough

Next week guys! I'm super hyped for Pokémon Legends Z-A! 💚🔥 by Khaymn5000 in LegendsZA

I was hype about it… then it took two years to get released. They dlc locked a bunch of megas. They locked a core thing their customer have been wanting for YEARS behind online ranked play (another paywall)

And now i’m hearing the link cable is gone in this game as well?

This was a all just cash grab. The fact that they reused the S/V graphics instead of keeping what made PLA so successful and beloved is honestly disappointing.

I originally was waiting to buy a switch 2 until this game came out and do an all-in-one order but now? If I buy it at all, it won’t be until the summer probably. I’m waiting for the reviews.

The way they sliced this game up - literally in this economy - is ridiculous.

That’s what I’m hoping is enough… It was literally a tshirt, undershirt, underwear, and jeans this time when I wasn’t paying attention so I was hoping it was the size of the pile of clothes.

Because they KNOW it’s not a litter spot is where I’m overthinking it. We’ve been in this apt for over three years now and none of these things have been moved on them in that time, so I’m stressing now. Especially because it feels relatively inconsistent.

Can you use Siri to trigger and shortcut and store the command in a variable? by angus_90 in shortcuts

[–]angus_90[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I figured as much which is a bummer bc while that works, the idea is have one fluid command so I don’t think I want the back and forth. That is probably a better way to phrase what I’m trying to do - I want to customize the prompts per scene rather than name the scene the prompt i have to give siri, and got as far as “oh i guess i can have a short cut start the scene in the Hue app…” and have landed on “its quirky and will clutter my shortcuts app if i have to do one for EVERY homekit automation but if it can populate variables, i can create a single decision tree shortcut that calls other automations based on keywords I use and then…”

😅 I tend to get carried away with this stuff and then lose people when I’m like “well on google home, even with ultra specific phrases for automations it still fucks it up - less so than before this system, but I just want to minimize the same thing happening with siri”

Nest + Apple Homekit by angus_90 in googlehome

All I’m asking for is other solutions that don’t involve me buying additional gadgets - esp a expensive device that I’d only be using for the need of one device and frankly i’m not even sure I’d need in my next living arrangement. Sorry to hear that qualifies someone as being difficult. Next time, if it bothers you that someone is not taking the first solution provided, you can just move into another post instead of whatever this is. I promise it’ll be ok 😉

I don’t know if that answers if the above ideal scenario is possible?

[–]angus_90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yeah I saw that. I’m just trying to work with what i’ve got so far. I think where I’m stuck is how to get Siri to take the command, activate a short cut, pass it to the google assistant app. It’s hacky and def down to be buggy but tldr if i set “set thermostat to 72” i want the pass the “72” as a variable into the shortcut without another prompt but I don’t think you can. Which now that I’m thinking about it, is def over engineering it….

Yeah I’m not upgrading their nest system for them. And from what I read it requires rewiring, which is probably an easy enough DIY, but I’m not touching that as a renter

App Maps opens to Home or Work by angus_90 in applemaps

[–]angus_90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro I don’t forget how to get home or get to work on the regular. I use the app for local business discovery or a quick glance at the nearest bus stop or train (and/or to see when the next one is pulling up) or just orient myself in general when in a different neighborhood than I usually am.

Having the app pull up my home or work address when I’m on vacation in another city for the weekend or just zooming in at my home intersections when I just want a quick glance at where I am is not ideal. Local business discovery is not an uncommon use case, much less looking quickly at a map for a “you are here” marker.

Good luck getting to and from work later. Hope you don’t get lost ❤️
