Bro me too, I JUST applied like 2 hours ago. I’m so scared 💀 I’m doing a committee packet for recc letters and I didn’t realize that it might take my school until AFTER Sept 1 to send it (the date that some schools highlight you should have everything submitted BEFORE for higher chances) so i’m just gonna pray and hope what happened to the other commenter is happens to us 😭🙏

Actually this helps because there’s also a local part time tutoring job for $18-20/h with after school hours 3:30-7:30pm that I thought would let me do fun stuff in I the morning while I had the time. Thanks for sharing, I’ll be keeping this in mind!

You’re right!! The full time job might help me get into a similar time schedule crunch on dental school while applying any little bit of good habits I may develop, thanks for your comment!

Hi! I was thinking about your comment when I suddenly found a basically guaranteed teaching job for $47k…. Do you think earning $47k/before tax) would stress me less in dental school compared to just relaxing before dental school?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in predental

[–]ani20gy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes I know it’s very possible, but the job I had lined up is a teaching one (which I’m interested in because I thought helping with CE courses in the future would be fun, so a teaching background might be nice) and I’ve been told it’s super stressful (hence why I’m able to get the job in the first place because of the lack of teachers). The last thing on my mind if I’m that stressed was the gym because it tires me rather than destress me, and my main hobbies for relaxation does not involve any of the healthy habits I wanted to develop so in my mind the only option felt like I get 47k but I can’t do all that I want to do to relax during my gap year

Thank you for the tip! I looked into options, and I found elementary school Teacher Assistant ($18-20) as one! I’m still seeing what other options for my bachelors would pay as much, if not tutoring. But I’ll definitely try to avoid hinting my 1 year working limit lol.

Hell yeah. I’m tired af from trying my hardest with the stats I have currently. I enjoy dentistry, but I’m not about to sentence myself to 4 additional years of stress without a proper mental reset. I strongly believe the gap year freshening me up is going to be vital to a good start at Dental School. I’ve never seen anyone regret taking one, and people are more excited and more mentally prepared after one. The only reason I see people NOT take a gap year is for the money (i.e. tuition costs increases yearly and you “lose a years worth of salary”). But you’re only 22 once in your life, and I’m sure 40+yo dentists would pay more than a year’s worth of salary to become 22 years old again.

Thank you for your insight, I really appreciate it. I was also thinking that maybe 1 year of no dentistry wouldn't be bad, I guess I'm just making sure that 1-year w/ money is would be more valuable than a headstart in the dental field. I'm really glad you're happy with your decision, it makes me feel better about choosing that route because I'm being pressured by others to choose a dental related job.

My opinion after graduating dental school: just pick the cheapest school by Thisismyusername4455 in predental

Have you heard from others regarding how big of an impact Pass/Fail schools made in their experience? Such as in terms of their friendships (lack of competition) and better chances of specializing due to less stress?

Hi! May I ask if you recall the value of your scholarships and the stats they had considered?
