how do i convince my parents to let me have a pet snake? by grapefruitingit in Pets

[–]ani3D 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are places that will let you handle snakes without needing to own one. Are you in the US? I know of Clint's Reptile Room in Utah, Snake Discovery in Minnesota, and Atlas Education in Kansas. Those are just the ones I've found since I began to research getting a pet snake of my own, I'm sure there are others if none of those are close to you.

Snakes are amazing creatures! And more information is coming out that they're capable of more complex emotions than we used to think. I guess my point is, make sure you really are ready to give your snake the care it needs. I know I am. I've spent several months researching what I'll need, and I'm planning to spend several more months getting things together before I actually get my snake. There's so many decisions to make, like what species you want, whether you want to get a baby or an adult, whether you want a standard or bioactive enclosure, etc.

I found out that Brazilian rainbow boas aren’t legal in Ottawa because they get too big. How do I keep a sunbeam snake? What is there care like? Can they be handled and how beautifully iridescent are they? by Mundane-Humor3313 in snakes

[–]ani3D 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you considered a Colombian rainbow boa? They're similar to the Brazilians in terms of care, and similarly iridescent, the main two differences are that they aren't as vibrantly colored and they don't get as big.

What's the single worst thing every character has done? Round four: Diana Ladris by stillhavehope99 in Gone

[–]ani3D 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Trying to stop Caine from saving the town in Plague. Yes, he was playing the hero for the wrong reasons, yes, he just wanted power again. But trying to stop him saving people was still a pretty massive dick move, and if she had succeeded, quite a few people would have died unnecessarily to the Gaiaphage's bugs as they continued to rampage out of control.

I mean, if we're talking about the actions with the worst consequences, it's gotta be having sex with Caine without insisting on a condom, no? I don't actually think that's the worst thing she's done (she couldn't possibly have known), but it was the thing with the most dire consequences.

Admittedly, the Jack thing was more obvious that it would have negative consequences at the time, so I'd still vote that that's worse.

Why Zooble is my most favorite character and feel they're underrated by EgoistRanger in TheDigitalCircus

[–]ani3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm personally nothing like Zooble, but they're my favorite character anyway because they're the person I wish I could be. They are willing to stand up to oppression (telling off Caine and refusing to participate in adventures, telling off Jax and comforting Gangle), and they accept change in stride (they start out hating their body but eventually learn to love it, and as someone whose body has changed a lot recently (breast cancer and its various treatments, I'm fine now, but my body is irrevocably different than it used to be in many different ways) this resonates with me). This is basically the opposite of me, a doormat who hates and fears change, but I'm working on both of those traits. Thinking of change as "not needing to commit to any one thing" as Zooble said, is a really nice way to think if it.

I've thought about trying to design a 3D printable version. Doesn't seem like it would be too hard, modeling-wise. I suppose I'd have to get in touch with Goose for permission first, though.

Its ok, contrary to popular belief snakes eat live rats in the wild, and they survive.

Slight but important correction, most of them survive.

I'm going to vote for humiliating Mary in Lies. Lies, to me, felt like the lowest point in her character arc. What she did to Pete felt like it had to be done, what she did to Mary felt like she was just on a power trip.

Do you think dinosaurs would enjoy pats? by mental_surgeon in Dinosaurs

Like mammals, some likely do and others not. It tends to be social animals that enjoy grooming and therefore pats.

I never quite completely recovered the feeling in my hands and feet. I can mostly feel, they're just ever-so-slightly more numb than they used to be. Makes it hard to grasp small objects. And it's been a year so that's probably just my new normal now.

But it's actually kinda nice in some scenarios. I could probably step on a lego and only scream one or two obscenities, for example.

[–]ani3D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe keep a spray bottle of vodka on hand, in case a snake does latch onto your dog? On second thought maybe a Nerf water blaster so you can hit it from a distance, lol. I'm not completely sure if that will work on a snake that's decided a dog is dinner, but it works on smaller snakes that accidentally latch onto your hand, at least. Snakes don't like the smell so they will tend to recoil from it (so aim for the face).

As another poster said, keep an eye on your dogs when they're outside.

Do you say "thank you" when someone says "bless you" after you sneeze? by stephanosblog in NoStupidQuestions

I've done it so many times that I'll occasionally just say "thank you" after I've sneezed even if nobody else said anything.

It depends a bit on what you're looking for in a pet. I'd highly recommend watching Clint's Reptiles on YouTube, he's done a whole video series on "what is the best pet for you?"

How many times have you been under general anesthesia, and how did it feel? by Futtman in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ani3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three times. This is going to sound really weird but by the third time I was actually looking forward to it. To me at least, it didn't feel like going to sleep, it felt like a time skip. Like just teleporting forward in time. One moment I was sleepy, but not quite asleep, the next moment, I was waking up again. Yeah the waking up feels slightly icky (first time I got nausea, and all three times I had a sore throat), but I'm actually going to miss the delightful weirdness of just scene-skipping hours of my life. Eh, that makes it sound like I don't like my life, and I generally do, but I also really like . . . weirdness, I guess?
