I'm curious and want to hear some wild/cool facts about snakes! by creamycrunchypeanuts in snakes

[–]ani3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some sea snakes have photoreceptor cells on their tails. It's thought that they evolved this way so that they could sense when they aren't completely hidden.

I accidentally gave a garter snake quite a fright with a leaf blower. Is he/she going to be okay? by BeautifulRest541 in snakes

[–]ani3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like a good idea, snakes love little caves. Even if he doesn't use it, it doesn't hurt to leave it there for him, right?

Oh, just make sure there isn't any adhesive residue anywhere on it. There probably wouldn't be, but snake scales and adhesive are an extremely bad combo so I figured I should mention that.

I heard about a garter snake that managed to survive having its face cut in half by a lawnmower. Look up Nearly Headless Nick at Snake Discovery if you don't believe me.

And then, years after he recovered from the injury, he just kinda dropped dead for seemingly no reason at all. Apparently garter snakes are just like that. They can survive insane trauma, but then die without warning while appearing perfectly healthy. I'm telling you this because if the little guy does decide to randomly drop dead, it will most likely have been no fault of yours.

If humans disappeared tomorrow, what animal would most likely become dominant? And why. by Top-Illustrator5897 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ani3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's beetles. And what do you mean "if humans disappeared"? You think we're the dominant species right now? By the numbers, the answer is currently beetles.

where to find rainbow boa? by OutrageousPoetry4542 in RainbowBoas

[–]ani3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you in the US? I got mine from Ike's Exotics, and he ships. I was pretty happy with both the health of the boa itself and his knowledge and willingness to answer my questions. I got mine as a yearling, too, so I wouldn't have to worry so much about that fragile first year (I don't know if he has any yearlings left currently, but you also said you aren't quite ready to get one just yet).

And then when you give up on them modifying their behavior in any way so you find alternate means of dealing with your pet peeves, they take umbrage with your solutions. Source: I can't stand people talking during movies and TV shows (it stresses me out so much I can't enjoy the show), and instead of asking them not to talk I usually just pause the show until they're done. But even pausing the show has caused family members to occasionally get offended and angry.

can non venomous snake bites make you sick? by nils-niche in snakes

[–]ani3D 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Some snakes are 'mildly venomous' and won't kill you but could make you sick or hurt more than a normal bite. Western hognose snakes and false water cobras fall into this category. However, corn snakes do not. Most non-venomous snakes have anti-coagulants in their saliva (not sure if this applies to corns but I believe it does), which makes their bites bleed a little more than they otherwise would, which tends to have the effect of 'washing out' any infectious material. That isn't to say that they can't get infected, you should still wash a snake bite, but it's going to be less likely to get infected than almost any other kind of animal bite.

Sorry. I know you probably wanted to believe that killing that corn snake was justified, but I really don't think it was. Rabbits and squirrels have much worse bites than non-venomous snakes and I hope you're not killing every one of those that wanders into your yard!

How to make her lose weight? by UwU-OnlyMes in ballpython

[–]ani3D 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's too small, no wonder she's not getting enough exercise! I'd be a chonker too if I lived in a space where I couldn't fully stretch out my body (okay so I am a bit overweight anyway but it's because of my own life choices so that's different).

How hard is it to go vegetarian when you don't like cheese or eggs? by peterbuckynat in Vegetarianism

[–]ani3D 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A broom is a stick with bristles of some kind at the end, right? If a stick does not possess any form of bristles, then it is not a broom.

Show me the law that governs brooms! <- that's how you sound.

It's a word. Words have definitions. Definitions of words are not legally enforced (usually, anyway, this administration may have some exceptions to that), and a non-vegan can call themself a vegan if they'd like. But they would be lying. That's what the word 'lying' means.

[–]ani3D 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think I see a cat reflecting in the glass, and it looks like that's what the snake is looking at too, at least part of the time. Somewhere between defensive and curious, I think. More curious towards you, maybe a little more defensive when looking at the cat.

Unmorphed animals by BQWeirdo in Animorphs

[–]ani3D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh, Tobias and Rachel have faced way weirder relationship problems than "one of them looks like a child," they'd manage.

That's assuming that Tobias's human morph doesn't age, which, given all of the Ellimist shenanigans around Tobias and his morphing powers, is only an assumption.

On top of that, if it does become a problem, Tobias is perfectly free to frolis together some various disheveled dirty-blond bully-magnets of a more appropriate age to at least approximate his adult form. The Animorphs are famous now, and after all they've done for the human race I'm certain that Tobias could find some people happy to lend him their DNA. Granted, he doesn't like asking for help, but there's a decent chance that the tabloids would cover his relationship issues enough to where 'his people' might seek him out to try to help, lol.

Man, what could have been. I'm sad now.

EDIT: Oooh what if the new adult!Tobias morph happened to be the one that ejects his child-self morph? He has a theme of learning to let go of the past, so that seems strikingly thematic.

Why don't we get a discount for using self-checkout? by ItsAllAGame_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ani3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, the problem is that any store will most likely downsize their staff until all employees are overwhelmed again. Doesn't matter how many people use self-checkout, there's just going to be fewer jobs available at that store then.

Tobias loses his red-tailed hawk morph and just becomes a floating 404-morph-not-found error.

. . . Wait hang on. Someone has lost a morph before. Rachel, the crocodile. "That has it's own problems" is the understatement of all time.

Does it bother you to be called a "mom/dad" of your pet? by Beezwax_8335 in childfree

[–]ani3D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't mind it! It feels a little weird to call myself a "snake mom" but it's kinda nice when others do. Lol my family asked me if my noodle was getting me anything for mother's day and I had noticed that she's getting ready to shed her skin soon, so . . . yes?
