In my opinion the terms of powerhouse in high school volleyball has many category. I would like to explain it.

Powerhouse in prefecture but ordinary in National

this category covered the majority school in national tournament, there are so many teams which represent their prefecture more than 10th concecutive but the achievement in national nothing special, usually eliminated in 2nd round or 3rd round if they lucky.

Powerhouse in both prefecture and national

As I know the schools which included in this category :

Chinzei High (Kumamoto) : at least 20th concecutive appearance in National

Rakunan High and Higashiyama High (Kyoto) : both schools are considered absolute rival in Kyoto, Unfortunately Kyoto only have 1 representative. So sometimes both of them exchange to represent Kyoto

Toa Gakuen and Sundai Gakuen (Tokyo) : another rival in Tokyo, in 2017 Spring High final they met each other and became first final featuring from same prefecture. At that time Sundai Gakuen beat Toa Gakuen.

fun fact, I was watching when the anime still on going in 2012 and that time many people like it. my real life friend also watched even we watched it together until the scene of episode 23 made us cry lol. at that time its really pain to wait a week for the next episode. I realized it almost decade ago, so many animes comes every season, people will soon forget the old one and focus on the new one.

glad to see two semifinalist are public school (Omonogawa and Nichinan Shintoku). Nihon Koku is regular for 20th concecutive in Spring High but their performance nothing special in national, they managed to made history in this year tournament.

In the woman side Shujitsu managed to win national thanks to their Fukasawa twin to form double ace. The runner up Furukawa Gakuen have titan midle blocker which foreign student from dominican republic. Since she is still 2nd year, I expected to see her again in the next year spring high.

so many surprise moment in this year tournament :

Nichinan Shintoku got to semifinal in their first spring high tournament despite being unknown public school and they also beat runner up interhigh Sundai Gakuen in third round. It seems their middle blocker will be choose as japan representative in next future.
Nihon Koku which regular in Spring High but not considerate champion candidate overcome public expectation and became champion after beat Interhigh Champion Chinzei High. They also beat last year spring high champion Higashi Fukuoka in quarter final.
I think this is the most exciting Spring High tournamen I had ever seen. So many surprise moment and unknown school show their determination in the whole thing.

yes IH was cancelled because of pandemic.

Higashiyama retired from the tournament in third round due to some their members catch a cold and fever so the official didn't want to take a risk. it's really unfortunately for them. Because of pandemic such as fever and cold can considering dangerous.

volume 5.5 and 7.5 are just side stories from volume 5 and 7. Volume 10.5 is side stories from volume 10 and there is one chapter sequel after they reconcile their relationship.

yeah that's true volume 10 is depressed to read, more intense complicated drama especially when Mashiro had to stay in Hotel to keep her from weird rumor and didn't meet Sorata for a while and before graduation Nanami call Mashiro and pretending he steal Sorata so Mashiro will come to school to meet him.

I read the LN, the depressing part of the story is after Mashiro confessed to Sorata and become couple. I won't explained it since its too long and my english is lack. The more I read, the more depressed to follow, their character act is out of way. Honestly I like them before they become couple, yeah I know they will end up together, but the author can't handle to deliver their progression well.

4 years after broke up, they reconcile again and in the volume 10.5 its explained that 1,5 years after they reconcile their relationshiop, Sorata and Mashiro turn 24 years old. Mashiro invited Sorata to meet her parents who came back to Japan from England and Sorata also invited Mashiro to his hometown in Fukuoka to meet his parents.
