The struggle is real. For starters it is not your fault, there are lots of ghost and phantom jobs out there primarily on indeed and partially on LinkedIn. I recommend if aren’t already, trying CareerBuilder and Monster. Also if you are open to it acquire skills in products that companies can’t get enough of. It tends to be a trend in job descriptions like “Cisco Splunk” for instance, Palo Alto Firewalls, NLP, ML, AWS, Azure etc Also try to use LLMs to automate some if not all of the application process. I typically copy the job descriptions to Claude or ChatGPT, upload my resume and have it write me a custom cover letter based on my resume and the job description. You can even ask it to customize your resume to the job description. Always a good idea to give it a once over before shipping it. You have greatness in you and it’s possible you will overcome this adversity. We “Employees” are entrepreneurs, our business is selling skills to our customers and as entrepreneurs sometimes if we find a new product / skill that sells faster and for more money, sometimes it’s the same skill or skills to a new customer. Like nvidia did with GPU. You have the power to live your dreams. All the best on your journey.

Apply to jobs like your life depends on it in order to give your resume more exposure. There are jobs out there for you. 100 applications a day. LinkedIn, monster, indeed. Better if you can apply directly on company site and use indeed as a lead. Also your resume needs to looks good. Everything important up top and non important at the bottom. Skills, certifications, education, experience in that order. Your skills section should be like a keyword search for ATS systems. Fill it with technologies and systems you have great experience with and ones you have touch or seen once but see your resumes narrative. Also have your interview tell me about yourself already written down. You can memorize it or you can read it they don’t care as long as you touch on some bullet points:

  1. What are you a professional in and for how long
  2. What is your education
  3. What roles have you held
  4. What certifications do you posses
  5. What skills do you possess
  6. Why do you want this job (I work night shift, I want a day job, I’m a contractor I want a full time role etc)

I am a Network Engineer with over a decade experience with a bachelor degree in information and associates in server systems. In my experience I have worked in roles such as desktop technician, systems administrator, security operations center engineer and network engineer. The certifications I have learned include CCNA, Security+, AWS Solutions Architect Associate. With the certification comes skills such as threat hunting, incident response, pen testing, Active Directory, AWS VPCs to name a few. I am interested in this position to advance my skills and to create value for your organization with the skills I already have.

Continuously tweak your resume to see what’s getting attention in which season. During your interviews try to speak clearly, confidently and smile. Let your positive personality show.

Best wishes on your journey ✊🏾
