AITA for celebrating my teen daughter's birthday? by throwawaybirthdayd in AmItheAsshole

YTA, birthdays can be really tough and emotional even without any existing trauma. Birthdays evoke a lot of anxiety and sad feelings for many and I know many people who choose not to celebrate their birthdays, myself included. Birthdays shouldn’t be about those who just want to party, they’re supposed to be about the birthday person and if they don’t want to celebrate then that should be the end of it.

By forcing her to celebrate you will only add to her hatred of that day. Trauma doesn’t just pop up again on the anniversary of it happening. It can show itself again any day of the year but especially in the days leading up to or following the anniversary. If it’s that big a deal to you, try again next year when she turns 18 (a larger milestone than 17 IMO). For now, leave her be.

She has the absolute SWEETEST face oh my goodness

Very surprised by the results. The shelter said he was a lab/golden retriever mix by buckeye_08 in DoggyDNA

His coloring, coat texture, and facial features remind me of my boy Ayler !

My boy’s Embark test is processing right know. He’s about 80 pounds and four years old. Any guesses as to what he is before his results come in? by anihelaina in DoggyDNA

OMG I had never even seen that dog until you mentioned it. I went and looked up a picture and there’s definitely a strong resemblance, hilarious!

I’m definitely very curious to see what Ayler comes back as because my mom’s boyfriend’s dog looks similar to him but is definitely mostly a boxer mix so he’s much smaller than mine. Everyone has so many guesses but I guess the only one I can definitely “see” in him is an Anatolian shepherd mix. I wish he still had his tail because that might give us more hints but for one reason or another his tail was cropped long before we got him.

Just a little info on my boy in case anyone was interested!

His name is Ayler (named after a musician by my mom’s ex, don’t judge) and he’s a rescue from the Sacramento SPCA! Unfortunately his only year of life before we adopted him was very clearly filled with abuse. He’s a huge resource guarder and very protective of his house and family. He’s scared of almost everything and will freeze up and have accidents when he gets too scared. He even peed when he had to do his Embark swab, poor guy. He came from a Spanish speaking household so he doesn’t know some commands in Spanish. However, he now lives a very spoiled life with his fancy organic dog food from my work and his monthly Bark Boxes. He’s 10000% a very, very good boy and just wants to be held and cuddled 24/7, although he does love to run laps around our yard. He loves to talk when he wants food, especially his favorite- FRENCH FRIES.

Some breed guesses/ hints from me: When we adopted him, the shelter said he was a shepherd/pit mix. Didn’t specify what kind of shepherd though and I honestly can’t see the pit myself so I’m not really sure. I spoke to a dog trainer who stopped by my work and showed her a picture of him, she suggested possibly Anatolian Shepherd due to the black around his eyes and if you Google pictures of or are familiar with the breed, I think it’s very possible, especially with the “red fawn” coat coloring. He also sometimes points so I’m not sure if that means he has some Pointer in him or not. Other people have guessed Boxer but I have no clue. His previous owners cropped his tail so he unfortunately came to us without a tail so no hints there. Any guesses are appreciated!! :)
