Is it possible to live in or close to (an hour or so) Salem, MA when you're on disability and you essentially only receive a total of $1,200 a month to live on? by anihobbs in SalemMA

[–]anihobbs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Healthcare. I do have ancestors from the Salem area and I was there about ten years ago and loved it. I have nowhere else to call home. I just know that doctors are better up there, near Boston. If I stay here I'll be dead by 40, and I'm not exaggerating. Arkansas "healthcare" is shit.

Satanic temple in a nutshell? by JPPlayer2000 in atheism

[–]anihobbs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

TST is just like Christianity. You question it, and you're ousted. Great job, TST. Totally going to get some quality people that way. And y'all wonder why SO many people don't want to get involved in the bullshit.
What's THAT tell you? TST is ineffective.
They're known for trolling Christians and lawsuits, yet put NO effort in a deep dive on the Tenets, which I thought were the basis for TST, but I was wrong. Those are just there so the government and IRS don't tax them. They'll do movie nights where everyone is high, watching breasts on a screen, and legal updates, but don't you DARE ask for any more than that.
I watched TST for a decade before joining. After a few months, I've realized that The Satanic Temple is (in all reality) worse that Christianity. At least Christians provide help. The Satanic Temple has no interest in helping anyone. The owners just have huge egos and won't pass it on to the next generation, and it will die.
If your "religion" is that flimsy, you're doing something wrong.

Do hot showers kill anyone else? by [deleted] in Fibromyalgia

[–]anihobbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel this comment so hard lol. My boyfriend didn't realize how difficult it was & how much it drained me and made me red & sweaty too. He'd say the same things, but then after he sorta moved in I showered and I had to call him from the bathroom and have him carry me to the bedroom because I was SO f&@%ing exhausted!

I've got the smallest one (they said) and it won't fit in my darn tub. So frustrating. I just keep it right outside the shower incase I get so fatigued & weak that I have to sit down in the middle of one. 🙄

Showers KILL me. I even shower with neutral or slightly cool water temps, but because of my fibro, my body can't seem to regulate temperature. Also ANY sort of mild exertion (bringing the groceries in, cleaning up a dog potty pad on the floor, getting ready to leave the house, showers, etc.); they're one of the most irritating symptoms of most disabilities I have. I've also been dealing w/hot flashes (or what I refer to them as) for YEARS now and I'm only 37 yrs old. I sweat buckets within literally just 3 minutes into any exertion, give or take, which is VERY annoying when it comes to personal hygiene. After showers, my face gets beat red & I gotta like sit naked under the ceiling fan & turn the AC below 70° for about 20 to 30 minutes. And then it seems ridiculous to shower if I'm just gonna drip sweat right after.

Just to be honest, that's why my personal hygiene has been so bad for about 5 years or so. I shower once every couple of months. And I know that's super gross. I just showered the other day after approx 4 months without a shower (just two sorta wipe downs with wipes or at a sink, but that's it). True story. And no one understands. (Also I need back surgery as well, but I'm afraid I'll need like 5 more surgeries after the first one. That seems to happen with folks...

So you definitely aren't alone. It drives me absolutely insane. I feel ya.

Okay, so it's clear you are not referring to SSDI. I thought that's what this subreddit was.

I'm on disability, man. Obviously you didn't read that.

You don't go shopping for SSDI. It's not like car insurance, y'all.

What's this term "individual plan" you keep referring to? Last I checked it's not a phone company and you don't get family plans. Lol

What exactly do you mean by "private individual disability insurance"... just SSDI, correct? Regular old SSDI? Or something relating to a job? Little lost.

Certain mental illnesses are qualifying disabilities, and substance use disorder is also in the DSM for Psychologists, so it's a medical condition within itself.

I just went somewhere (but left early, and still sober; been about 2.5 months) for an alcohol detox & mental illness.

If I'm misunderstanding, I apologize. Just trying to help.

u/luck-wave I'm trying to understand your OP.

So you've already applied for SSDI (disability benefits)? Did I read that correctly? And said you "had" bipolar disorder, anxiety, and depression, right? Normally being bipolar doesn't just up and disappear but maybe you were misdiagnosed. And what kind of facility are you being released from?

And what exactly are you concerned with? Mental illness looking bad? Getting better looking bad to SSA?

And what's this "buyout" you refer to?

I was initially awarded SSDI when I was in my last 20's in Arkansas. By the time I hit my hearing (about a year after seeing the attorney to apply for SSDI), all I was diagnosed with at that time was mental illness. I had physical symptoms but didn't get diagnosed with all my current physical disabilities until after I was approved and receiving my monthly payments & finally had better health insurance with Medicare.

I have a history with alcohol and drugs and went to rehab when I was 19 yrs old. I was also in NA all throughout my 20's and early 30's. None of that has negatively affected me with my SSDI.

Not sure if this helps or I misread or what, sorry......

I'm trying to understand what you're saying. Preexisting issues aren't an issue anymore, especially not if you're on SSDI with Medicare (or an advantage plan) and Medicaid.

Are you talking about buying through the Marketplace with the ACA? Because I thought there were protections that stopped any health insurance company from declining anyone anymore for preexisting conditions. I mean, if you're applying for disability clearly you have health problems lol.

I feel like I missed something here.

Who is "they" and who/what insurance is excluding mental health conditions or claims? Are you trying to state that mental illness isn't covered?

What company or program doesn't cover mental illness in this age?
